Hi
For a coulpe of weeks ago my n56 started to give me problems. I was running 342-firmware since a couple of months back and everything was fine. Suddenly I started to get probelm with the download speed on the 2,4ghz band (5ghz seems to work as it should). Since then I have tried many different firmwares (-206, -342- 1.0.1-f, padavan -058 and another padavan) but the same thing happens with them all. From time to time the speed get so low/bad that the connection time out. I have tried a factory reset and I tried to clear the nvram but it didnt help.
Earlier when I downloaded different files throgh u-torrent my speed was between 40-70mbit/s but now i get around 5-10mbit/s.
Do you think my router is tapping out? Or do you have any suggestion? I bought the router last october.

Did you try resetting your cable modem (or DSL modem)? Sometimes they get wedged, too, and if the modem isn't working right, there's nothing the router can do to help that.

If you can turn off your modem, just leave both your modem and router off for about 10 minutes. Then turn on your modem, and when it has stabilized (lights have stabilized), then turn on your router and see how things are at that point.

Just a thought.

Thanks for your answer.
And no, I havent tried that :eek:
I will test it as soon as I get back from work.
Hopefully it is as simple as that.

I had a very similar problem, slow transfer speeds after upgrading to 3.0.0.4.360 firmware. I thought for a long time that something was wrong with the device I was transferring to, but after trying everything to resolve the problem I finally went back a couple of updates to the 3.0.0.4.334 and the problem went away. I could try 342 to see if it works for me as well but I'm fine with 334 for now and hopefully the next update clears this up anyway.

So, i did reset the cable modem and flashed the asus 342 firmware 3days ago. Until last night everything was ok. But now the speed has decreased again, both on 2,4 and 5 ghz-band. I have a 100/100mbit connection but i can only get between 0-5mbit on the 2,4ghz and 5-10mbit on the 5ghz. When everything works as it should I get speeds between 50-75mbit.

Here is a picture from the router's system log:

I dont know what it means but maybe anyone can tell me?

I start to think there is something wrong with the router as it worked alright until some weeks ago.

I will try the 334 firmware to see if it helps.

The MgmtRing issue is known within the Asus firmware and has been addressed in the following thread;

Alternatively give padavans firmware a go and see if it helps with your problem;
