For the sake of this topic which has gone in another direction the conclusion is this:
There is no router out there that can really do more then 50-60 mbps with a VPN client.
CPU are limited and not fast enough to handle such heavy encryptions.
Maybe in the future the routers will get better cpu but for the moment this is it.
As you can see with Rango pfsence and Linux is not easy and one needs a lot of patients and experience to properly configure computers as routers.
ASUS routers are really good routers and if people think that getting another router will fix their speed problems they are just spending money for nothing.
One guy posted he had a ac5300 and claimed he got speeds of 60 mbps and higher which proves that a faster cpu can handle more load.
If you take for instance a single core cpu like the AC66U you will never get more then 10 mbps because the cpu cant handle it.
So in conclusion faster cpu, dual core cpu will make the difference.
How much one is willing to spend for faster speeds is up to the user
