SSH client + SSID

ssh tunnels are one thing - and they're handy as heck... I use them all the time, but mostly for context driven stuff - in other words - a point to point connection for a specific task at a specific time. I don't keep them up full-time.

Most folks use OpenVPN in a different context, and while they're not the best performing, they generally work.

One of other VPN's - L2TP/IPSec - that's what I use for persistent tunnels... I host my own end-points, either directly, or through a VPS provider these days - but I control both ends there.

Both are secure, along with SSH Tunnels, just depends on the use case and end-point support.
