Static ARP Binding Causes False Wired Connection Status in WebUI

Klonoa

New Around Here
Hi everyone,

I’ve encountered a strange issue after configuring static ARP binding on my device:

  • The bound device is not actually connected — I’ve confirmed this via SSH (checking the connection list and DHCP leases).
  • However, the WebUI briefly shows the device as “wired connected” even though it’s not.
  • This status keeps repeating in a loop: appears → disappears → appears again…
The issue doesn’t seem to affect network functionality, but it feels odd. I’m wondering if it’s a display bug caused by the static ARP binding, or maybe some kind of device monitoring misjudgment.

Has anyone seen this behavior before? Or know what might be causing it?

System information and command

Router:
RT-AC86U
System: Merlin 386.14.2
DHCP Manual Assignment: Enabled

Command:
arp -s 192.168.1.3 XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX

Welcome to the world of wacky Asus Network Map. There is likely no fix that Merlin can do for you.

networkmap relies partially on ip neigh output of the arp table to find clients on the network.
