Strange Android Connection Issue

New Around Here
This issue has been bothering me for months and I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on the possible cause. I'm running a single ASUS RT-AC68U on my home network with Merlin 378.56_2 installed. The router is configured with 2.4 and 5Ghz main wireless networks as well as a guest network on both channels. The problem occurs when I connect my phone to one of the main wireless networks. Every other device works just fine, but my Android phone slows to a crawl when trying to access Facebook and any Google services. It usually fails completely to load even a single Facebook item in my news feed. The only workaround I have found is to connect to one of the guest networks instead. Once I do that, everything works great again and Facebook and Google load items instantly.

I guess my question is can anyone think of a setting or some other reason that my main networks seem to be "blocking" those services (only on my phone) while the guest network works just fine?

Note that the same behavior showed up with stock ASUS firmware.

Thanks for any help!

running any custom DNS settings? (OpenDNS with DNS filtering for example)

Some apps have hardcoded DNS that can run into issues there...

The only thing I have messed with in regard to DNS is to change to Google DNS servers in the router WAN settings. I tried both Google DNS and my ISP DNS and both still exhibit the same issues. Are there potentially any logs I can take a look at that might show what is going on?

My phone is a Motorola XT1254 Droid Turbo (Verizon) running android 5.1.

I just ran a couple checks and it seems like it may be my phone for some reason. My wife's new Galaxy S6 running 5.1 works fine on the regular networks.

It probably is your phone perhaps... esp. since it's specific apps on the phone...

I did some more digging and found that this has been a relatively common issue for users of several android phones. It usually happens with facebook, instagram, google, etc.. and results in images taking forever to load. Many people with the issue reported that changing ipv6 settings (most just disable ipv6) on the router fixed the issue so I started messing with ipv6 on my AC68U. The first thing I did was turn on ipv6 and change it to tunnel 6to4. I also added google ipv6 DNS addresses in the DNS settings. I rebooted the router and sure enough, the issue is completely gone. I don't understand why, but I'm just glad I don't have to use my guest network to use wifi on my phone anymore.
