Suggested tweaks for GT-AC5300?

So new to the forum and really appreciate the wealth of knowledge that is shared here. I purchase d anew GT-AC5300 on was curious what the recommended settings/tweaks might be that others use? I understand that each network is different but I was really unaware of all the different settings that can be made with wifi routers.

Specifically, are there benefits for selecting a specific channel for each band and if so, how to go about that? I have also seen "Smart Connect" mentioned and trying to wrap my head around how that works as well.

We stream IPTV/Netflix/Amazon heavily and then we have an Xbox 360 that I would love to figure out how to optimize for online play. All those devices are hardwired directly. Wifi is really for phones and computers.

Right now, everything is set to default and just curious if there are obvious settings that a newbie like me would not be aware of.

Thank you!

Disable Airtime Fairness and MU-MIMO for optimal compatibility with clients (unless you know for a fact that you're not having any performance or connectivity issues with those on your network).

I don't recommend using Smart Connect - assign different SSIDs instead, and manually connect your clients to the desired bands.

Usually best to manually select channels as well, as I generally don't trust the automated algorithms used to determine the best channel. Too often I've seen them chose wrong.

Thank you for the advice...very helpful. To be honest, I am not sure what those first two are but will Google to find out more.

Thanks!
