Sync with Box, Dropbox or Copy?

Hi,

I see the built-in "Smart Sync" allows you to sync data from the attached USB drive to suswebstorage.com.

Is there any way to do the same (or similar) but with Box, Dropbox, Copy or any other similar service?

Thanks!

Not at the moment. Hopefully this is something Asus will consider - most of that code is closed-source so it will be up to them to implement support for it.

I don't develop software so I don't know how fleshed out this thought is, but I haven't seen a lot of cloud sync services integrate with actual routers and NAS devices. In the Synology forums there is a guy who did a user made attempt at Dropbox sync and it's kind of a mess. I know Dropbox really pushes its APIs for software developers though, like if you were making an app. https://www.dropbox.com/developers

I have a Dropbox folder integrate with iCloud storage through the use of a symbolic link though, and it works great. Things propagate in both directions, and symbolic links can be made using network shares, so you could probably make one if you have a computer on your LAN that is on most of the time with the sync service you use, pointing a symbolic link at the router's USB drive. It's kind of hacky, but it works for my purpose.

See look, same stuff in Dropbox, and iCloud -> iTunes.

Hi,

Many thanks for your fast replies.

Yes. Symbolic links works fine, and I'm using them to sync folders outside the 'defined' sync folder o my laptop.

What I wanted to do is the sync process itself from the router, without having to relay on my laptop turned on and running the sync software.

Ideally, I wanted to have a 'backup' folder on the USB drive attached to the router. On this folder (with its content synced and encrypted via http://sourceforge.net/projects/stefanstools/files/CryptSync/ or something similar) I would copy whatever I need to be saved off-silte, and let the router have it synced with Box or Dropbox.
Cool idea, I think. But it cannot be implemented :(
