New Around Here
I want to get the best performing and reliable NAS I can for the money I can spend. I am doing a lot of research on whats available, so I am hoping to get some solid advice here.

i ahve narrowed it down between teh DS212 and Ultra 2, is the DS212 WORTH £40 more?

I will be using it for mainly only centralised storage for 2 laptops to connect wireless to route, which will be obviously be wired connected to the NAS.

i would want fastest speeds possbile and value for money.

please help...really confused.

If you are connecting the Laptops using wireless, this will be the limiting factor for your overall speed

Even wireless 'n' cannot match a 100mbit wired connection, which can only run at 12.5Megabytes/sec, whereas Gigabit can theoretically reach 125Megabytes/sec

Both the NAS's you mention are capable of delivering speeds in excess of a 100mbit connection, so wireless will be even slower again

Opinion:
Weigh speed, yes, but moreso, features in the NAS software suite.

Synology: Lexus sedan
Netgear: Chevy compact
