Trending Content: what is the algorithm?

What determines if something is trending? Can’t be recent posts since most of these are locked and dormant. Are bots reading them and making them trend? Or is this feature not really working?

Armed with this docu, I’ll ask what are this forum’s “Trending content weights” and “Trending content half life”? Seems the half life may be skewed.

The settings are pretty close to what the default values are in the documentation.

I guess this was one of the arguments for limiting the mega-threads several years ago. They’re still “trending” five years later due to reply counts.
