Trying to setup a repeater.

I have R7000 and RT-AC68R(68R). I also have E2500v1 running Shibby tomato v130 that I want to replace with 68R. Currently R7000 is a main router connected to arris tm722g and E2500 running as wifi client over 5Ghz band. There are wired devices connected to E2500. R7000 and E2500 are on the same subnet and I prefer this way. My plan is to replace E2500 with 68R and enable 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands to extend wifi coverage.
I have tried to setup 68R as a repeater and have 2.4 Ghz band enable, but I can't make 5Ghz to work. I can see it in windows of available SSID, but get no internet connectivity after connecting. Tried to setup SSIDs to be same or different, but neither worked. E2500 I can't even see 5Ghz band at all.

Any idea or can somebody point me to guides?

ps 68R is running Merlin's 54_2

Thanks
