Two routers in one network? How to "bypass" the first one?

In my local network I'm forced to use this D-Link DVG-5802S which tends to have some slight issues when it comes to handling several simultaneous connections at once and when double routing it seems like hosting game sessions is literary impossible even though I try to run forwarding through both routers even disabling the firewall function doesn't do the trick.

Therefore I was wondering what would be the best way to setup two routers in a network? Is there someway I can have my WNDR3700 do all the work and the DVG-5802S simply bypassing the data through out on the Internet without touching it?

Unfortunately the DVG-5802S HAS to be our gateway and hosting the connecting because of our IPTV solutions and other things.

I've tried to just disable about everything in the DVG-5802S, disabling the SPI firewall, setting it to endpoint independent and running double DHCP and everything which didn't work out that great at all, when disabling DHCP on the WNDR3700 and using as a switch / access point things works a bit better but then the horsepower of the WNDR3700 is rendered completely useless isn't it?

Is there anyway to do it to make it work better?
Perhaps DMZ hosting my WNDR3700? Should that be working any better?

Or am I stuck with the DVG-5820S and it's performance and restrictions no matter what I do?

(my 2 cents)

So you plugged your internet connection into your dvg's wan port.

then ran a cable between your dvg's switch port..to your wndr3700's wan port?

then connected all of your home network devices into your wndr3700 ?

(if you did this..it -should- work just fine).

Basically the dvg becomes the gateway for your wndr3700..and all your computers use the wndr3700 as their gateway.

honestly though.. if all of your connections are out to the internet..you won't gain anything..because the dvg is still sitting between you and the internet... Have you tried swapping out the unit with your ISP?

Unless you can put the DVG-5802S into bridge mode, sounds like you're stuck. All the solutions you've proposed, disabling firewall, putting in DMZ still have traffic passing through the DVG's routing code.
