Two routers, no upload

New Around Here
Hi there.

I’m wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I’m having while setting up a 2nd router for a friend. I added the 2nd router to her network to increase the range she was getting upstairs in her house.

The Current Situation is outlined:

Internet => D-Link Dsl-G604t (upstream router) => Netgear WGT624 (Downstream router) => Laptops (windows 7/max osx 10)

The problem we’re having is that neither laptop can upload (read : at all, not just slow. e.g upload test fails at speedtest.net, can’t upload a file to a web-based email account, can’t upload a photo to facebook) while connected via the Downstream router but they are both fine when we move downstairs in the house and connect to the Upstream router. Downloading/browsing/ping tests are all fine without any problems. I am using method 1 as outlined in this article.

So far I have tried disabling the firewall on the downstream router to no avail. I also had a go at port forwarding ftp (port 21 i think) to one of the laptops but this did not work either.

I’m pretty stumped at the moment, does anyone else have any suggestions to fix this problem?

Much appreciated, thank you.

More Ports

It sounds like you've got a network conflict. Both the Dlink and Netgear use 192.168.1.1 as their LAN IP address.

Make sure you've changed the LAN IP address on the Netgear to another subnet, such as 10.1.1.1. Also, disable the DHCP server on the Netgear.

Once complete, plug in a laptop into on of the Netgear's LAN ports. You should get an IP = 192.168.1.x and be able to surf.

Give that a shot.
