Two RT-N66u's working in conjunction but is it the best configuration?

New Around Here
I've searched and searched, couldn't find what I was looking for to confirm my setup.

I currently have two RT-N66U's at the house (both current F/W as of 29 April 2014). I have one towards the back of the house with the only coax drop in the house(!!!) and it is setup as the Router. The second RT-N66U is at the front of the house in "Repeater mode" connected on the 5GHz channel. I cannot wire them together (renting, attic is full of insulation, Vegas, etc...). Both 2.4 & 5GHz are on btw, different SSID's.

The Router has a PS3, Sonos bridge and the external 2TB HDD(USB 2.0) (movies/shows) all wired

The "repeater" has the MBP, printer, apple tv 2 all wired.

We currently have an iPhone 5, Samsung S3 and an iPad 3 that roam. Also should I "enable" roaming assistant???

I just want to make sure running the second RT-N66U in "repeater" mode is the proper way to have it setup. I have PS3 Media Server running on my MBP as it does the torrenting and is a temporary storage until I move everything to the external HDD which is connected to the AP (weekly).

The SSID's are hidden, both routers are N-only, 20/40auto, WPA2 personal, 120mW.

Whatcha think? Currently it's all working (amazingly), even the jailbroken Apple TV 2 that uses InFuse to stream shows from the MBP is going strong.

Thank you for any help/suggestions.

Matt

I would recommend bringing the repeater closer to your primary AP. If it's at the complete opposite end of the house, then it will simply repeat the same weak signal that your clients would be seeing.

Typically, if the main router (your AP) is at one end of the house, I would put the repeater closer to the center of the house, so it will repeat the average signal at the middle of the house, and still provide an average signal to the other end of it.

Gotcha. I'll see about moving it. Any thoughts to the setup though? Anything I should change for improvement?

Any reason why the first router is in AP mode rather than Router mode?

Actually it's in router mode, not sure why I put AP... any other changes that you can think of?

Not that I can think of, provided your wifi performance is satisfactory.
