New Around Here
Hi,

I have 2 x RT-AC68U units in an AiMesh.

Both were on Merlin 386.4. This morning I updated the root node to 386.5_2 without incident.

When I click on the 'upload' button for the node router though (Administration -> Firmware Upgrade page), it takes me to a log in page for the node, gives me a missing https / ssl cert warning, then takes me to a login screen for that router (I didn't realise I had a login for that unit as it was managed by the mesh), then finally fails with "Unable to connect to the Parent AP. RT-AC68U".

I've never seen this before. I expected hitting upload would prompt me for the file and take it from there as it has for previous updates.

I've rebooted both units without change.

Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong or, if it's a bug, how I can work around it and patch the child node?

Thanks very much!

This may not answer your problem, but I had issues with firmware 386.5_2 with AiMesh. I have setup a ax56u as the node, and an ax88u as the main router. After the firmware update on the node, it was showing a weak signal even thou this was just 5mm away from the ax88u. Changed back the firmware to 385.5_0 and got a strong signal. So there is something wrong with this release, if you noticed this was a very fast release just after releasing version 0.

386.5_2 only had minor bug fixes so I do not think there is any issue with this release.

386.5_2 (25-March-2022)

- UPDATED: openssl to 1.1.1n.
- UPDATED: openvpn to 2.5.6.
- CHANGED: Added Wireguard module + userspace tool to

GT-AXE11000.
- FIXED: Only a few DNSFilter clients are supported

on HND models (entries limited to 255 chars).
- FIXED: Security issue in AiCloud (backport from Asus)
- FIXED: Cannot enable Adaptive QoS under certain scenarios

I think this should have been posted on the firmware thread https://www.snbforums.com/threads/asuswrt-merlin-386-5-is-now-available.77691/page-29#post-754212

Regarding the issue, I am speculating it could be due to https login being enabled. ( as I said speculation, not 100% sure on this )

You can either change the authenication method to http:// or install a certificate https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1034294/

Perhaps @RMerlin could advise?

Hey - thanks for that! Switching to https and download / trusting a cert did the trick. There were still a few unexpected browser warnings on the way through which surprised me, but I eventually got to an upload screen on the remote node and it worked from there.

One thing that I had to do was rename the cert.pem file to cert.crt to get it to open in the Certificate Manager.

Your help is much appreciated. I'm quite blown away that these old AC68-U's are still going strong after so many years. I might update the main one and push this one out to a mesh node. Very impressive Asus.

Great news, glad it worked :) Thanks

WOW!
This was very helpful! I spent several hours trying to connect with airmesh my updated AC88U and AC68U.
Changed to https and the process was fine.

Don't know if I can change back to https when the link is stablished.
