UNC for Asus RT-AC68U 'hosted' Samba USB drive

After a bit of hassle with this, I found that setting Samba to SMBv2 only enables network access to a USB (2.0) drive attached to the router, an Asus RT-AC68U... which is working fine btw..! :-)

I want to use the USB drive for backups with Acronis Backup v12.5
Apparently Acronis does not recognise Windows-mapped networked drives, so I need to use the UNC.

Not done this before, so I don't know how to find the UNC, but read that I could use cmd prompt and net use
That gives me -->
New connections will be remembered.
There are no entries in the list.

So I
  • Disabled network share on the router
  • Switched USB drive off
  • Restarted windows
  • Switched USB drive on
  • Re-enabled the network share

The drive - and folders / files on it - is accessible through windows explorer but net use in cmd prompt still gives the same result: no entries in list.

Is the USB drive mapped in windows and, if so, how do I find the UNC?

It will be \\192.168.1.1\Foldername where Foldername is the folder in the root of the usb drive you want to access. Make sure you are using Simple share names in the Samba setup screen.
