Upgrade from 376.45

New Around Here
Hi guy,

As in the subject I was wondering if there are any significant benefits of upgrading from my current (quite an old version) of Merlin firmware to a new one.

I have no issues whatsoever up to now but was wondering if there are any performance improvement or security reason i should upgrade?

Or better "not broken dont touch it"?

Thanks

What router do you have? Without a doubt you seriously need to update if not for security alone.

Actually @RMerlin support for that model is ending with the update to 380.70 which is in alpha stage right now. You may want to look at @john9527 Fork it's a secure well running firmware for older routers. It is LTS which is "long term support".

Sorry for silly question but upgrading will reset the router to factory settings and i will have to configuration it from star? Or is there a way of saving my current setup?

Yes either way you will need to rest to factory defaults or you will be setting your router up for lots of trouble. If you are going with @john9527 Fork then I would search his sticky thread.

@john9527 also has a nvram backup and restore utility to help transfer settings. It's all on page one.

Thanks I will ask there which version of his fork i should download as it seems most suited for my "set and forget" skills :)

As you are still on a 376_xx release, going directly to John's 374 LTS branch is probably the best option. Even tho John branched out from a slightly older version than you, he has made tons of improvement and fixes since then, so it would be a definite step forward for you.
