New Around Here
Recently I flashed to the latest Merlin build firmware, 374.40. I am enjoying it vs the boxed firmware. Thank you!

Only complaint, and the main reason I made the switch is I want to control URL and keyword filters by specific IP address. The short and sweet is I have a teenage daughter that will use most our (generous) bandwidth allowance per month unless things like Netflix, YouTube, etc are blocked.

I do enable the blocks available but they apply to ALL the IP addresses, including my own devices and more importantly our DirecTV system, which screws with the DVR On-Demand functionality.

I need a solution around this, and would appreciate any insight and help. I did read an article how Tomato offers this, but would prefer to stick with the Merlin build if possible.

I had an ancient LinkSys WRT54G previously that offered this and loved it. My ASUS RT-N66U is even better minus this one feature. If I can get this figured out I'd be in "hog heaven", whatever that is. :D

I'm not a networking guru, so be gentle. Thanks.

I think I found a backdoor method around it using OpenDNS Home (free account). Correct me if I'm wrong.

1. Visit opendns.com and create a free account.
2. Go to Asus Parental Controls.
3. Click on DNS Filtering tab.
4. Turn on "Enable DNS Web Filtering".
5. Select "No Filtering" for Global Filter Mode.
6. Select desired client from Clients List drop down box.
7. Change filter mode to OpenDNS Home.
8. Click on the + (Add) button.
9. Review added settings, and adjust as needed.
10. Click Apply.

The above in place allows me to take advantage of the OpenDNS server lists. And it allows me to accomplish my initial task.

Exploring this a bit further...

1. If I wanted to use OpenDNS servers for the rest of the users in the household, but w/o restrictions am I correct to assume I can simply change to Custom 1 (or 2 or 3) and enter 1 of the OpenDNS server domains under the Global Filtering Option?

2. Using OpenDNS and Merlin settings, how do I control different IP/MAC addresses if I want different security settings. Maybe block the daughter as-is, but want to create a guest network that allows less video/audio restrictions but still blocks porn, etc? And lastly have an "unrestricted" access for admin use?
