Solved Virgin Broadband Static To Dynamic IP Easy? UPDATE: not easy!

Occasional Visitor
I currently have Virgin Business Broadband on an old Grandfathered contract of 350mb with 5 static IPs (as 1 of the services I used for work at the time needed a static IP to work with cable Broadband)
I only ever used 2 of the IPs in the end and I am now vastly over paying for slow speeds as they currently over 600mb for £20pm less than I pay
My set up is supplier cable router provided for Static IPs is in "modem mode" and all my router capabilities including WiFi all handled by my Asus AX86UPRO

I have 2 options:
Switch to a normal service with offers a dynamic IP - but i will need to ask if the modem they provide for this can be put in modem mode or ask for the service with 1 static IP into my Asus router to handle everything as it does now and run my other service out of this (instead of as the 2nd static IP - this is feasible according to IT of this company)

My concern is:
How complicated is it switching my Asus AX86UPRO from Static to dynamic IP assuming i go that way? Will I have to redo everything in settings (including the mesh i have set up with a 2nd router on wired backhaul) or is is just a case of changing the Wan settings and everything else inc DHCP etc all stays the same?

If I get the sefvice with 1 static IP I just have to enter the new IP details? (I am assuming they wont let me keep the same IP I have but I will ask)
Im out of depth with this level of detail and need to make this change with minimal impact on home connectivity so all help appreciated

For the normal domestic service you just change the WAN Connection Type from Static IP to Automatic IP (i.e. DHCP). That's it. No changes need to be made to the LAN.

You might also need to power off the VM Hub for 10 seconds or so and reboot the router when they switch you over.

All the VM Hubs supplied to domestic customers can be put into modem mode.

Sorry I have been late to update this - only just switched the service
For fellow simpletons: it is exactly as Colin described. A few steps (obvious to people who know what they are doing but hopefully helpful to anyone intimidated)

The new VM Router will come and need to connect via 192.168.0.1
This for me was same IP as my domestic (Asus) router and my old VM in static IP was 192.168.100.1

SO steps:
1. Connect my PC directly to the new VM router (bypass/turn off Asus one)
2. Log into via 192.168.0.1
3. Turn of Gateway Function in the "Basics" Tab
4. Reboot and let it stabalise for a couple minutes
5. wire the pc/asus router back up so that WAN for asus is from (new) VM
6. Log into VM (if you want) now via 192.168.100.1 which is the default when in Modem mode/static IP
7. Log back into Asus as normal
8. Click WAN/Connection Type and as above select "Automatic" and save
Give it a few secons and Tada everything woks as before on the new VM Modem with the enhanced speeds

EDIT:
It was great until the modem bricked
As did 3 others (engineer came out)
Apparently might be a faulty batch of the Hitron Chita 😢

I thought you were planning to switch to a VM domestic service? AFAIK the Hitron Chita is only supplied to business customers.

Thats right
Im still on VMB but no longer on the old 350mb/ 5 Static IP
Switched to dynamic 800mb for 1/2 the price

Well that was the principle at least 😢

All the VM Hubs supplied to domestic customers can be put into modem mode.
Not all, the Superhub 5x has no modem mode and is supplied for those on Nexfibres XGS-PON.
the setting is there but hidden away and disabled.
Not sure the reason but I read somewhere on another site that theres some monitoring that VM need that isn't available via nefibre so they put it into the SH5x. modem mode would bypass that.
not 100% sure on the reason but i know the SH5x doesn't do modem mode. Normal SH5 does however.

So I thought I should update this as it became an utter farce
Switchover was Thursday 18th Dec
Morning of switchover Chita plugged in, nice steady 600mb
switch to modem mode and use my Asus
All good nice steady 600mb....for 10min
Then chita reboots with flashing lights and no Internet
No manual reboots help
They reboot remotely and it works.....servixe restored for about 10-15min (worth noting they said they could see the Chita - i could not even log into it locally)

They rush an engineer out same afternoon
Initially suspect hardware failure
We try 2 more routers same problem but interestingly 4th router cant even find a connection (didnt do a remote reboot after 3rd one)

Engineer on chat - someone else days they had similar few days back - eventually worked with 5th router so possibly hardware
He doesnt have any more on van, promises to come back next morning with someone else mlre senior
Friday no show
Saturday im told someone will come 8-12
At 11.30 im told it will be 12-4
Turn up 3.30pm
Tbf he stayed until 6.30pm
Tried all his routers - same issue
Computer says no to authorising use of Hub5 for this service (assumption being with the regular nature and all else checking out there is a "patch" being sent OTA for rhe Hub5 which apparently had been sent recently) that is knocking out my Chita and the remote reboot overrides it until next patch send
He escalates to Network team who prmise to puck it up on Monday morning
They now suspect the line still thinks its Static IP so keeps looking and this glitches up
Monday - no show
Tuesday network engineer comes
All checks out but he is even more convinced it is account issue and suggests account rebuild
I call next morning - no one knows anything about it
After my 20-odd call (in total I had to make 37 calls for this problem) someone having read everything sets the account rebuild and by 4.40pm I have stable dynamic IP access

6 days of zero service
The worst bit was literally no one on the ground was allowed to make any decision to oher ride any computer says no or try anything different

Switched from domestic to business a year ago, changeover for me was smooth, the IP is fairly sticky and had 8+ months before it changed. Definitely good advice to switch off both devices for a bit before changing, definitely the hub doesn't like different devices on the modem port and needs a reboot for this.
As Colin mentions, the modern only has up of 192,168,100,1.
As mentioned also, the nexfibre device doesn't like modem mode, there's a hidden device page, I've been meaning to play with one for a while to see why.
Check which port is the modem-ap, mine is p port 4.
I found virgin business static an absolute pita, with weird routing on their side, it's a virtual static. Had really weird issues whitelisting IP address and country blocks etc, it was actually easier having a dynamic.
