No, the security daemon (asd) is not the same as the Trend Micro stuff.

I didn't know ASUS routers "phoned home". What other data is sent to them and how often?

I must of misunderstood how security threats are managed. I assumed if a threat is detected it is sent to ASUS similar to TM.

Asus Security Daemon or ASD, it has own signatures file. Unfortunately, the same ASD locked millions of routers some time ago. Asus hacked themselves.
