VPN Router with multicast support

Peter888

New Around Here
Hi,
I am involved with IPTV systems in commercial properties and need a remote access solution better than leaving a laptop on site and TeamViewer-ing to it.

Ideally, I would like to have a VPN router that I can connect to when needed, and check the actual streams coming from either the Telco or the satellite head-end. At one site, I was testing with a basic VPN router and all multicast stream were being sent to the router at once - not ideal as they had over 100 channels. Can anyone please help in telling me what I should be looking for in terms of router specifications - if it is at all possible to do?

Thanks,

Peter

Hi Peter. Could you describe the topology a bit more in detail? As your description stands, I'd be inclined to say the router will have to deal with all streams (incoming) regardless of how you want to segment the traffic (outgoing), but I can't say for certain yet as I don't know what kind of gear or routing setup you've got in place already. Thanks.

Hi Trip,

I am not 100% on the full network setup. We have about 400 endpoints and the edge switches (non-cascade, 192.168.104-107.XXX, all hardware and multicast on it) only requests the stream from the core as the STB requires it. I thought maybe a way to make the router only IGMP join/leave a steam when a remote user does, therefore stopping the flooding that now occurs. I could request from my clients to change their config to accommodate the router, but ideally, I need something that can plug in and behave just like a Set Top Box would.
