At work our network is hardwired since we process credit card transactions. Is there a safe way to install a wireless access point on the network without possibly compromising the security of our network/ credit card info?

We do not "need" wifi, but I would like having a wireless computer for email etc. I do not want to risk anybody attempting to exploit a wireless connection to gain our customers info.

would mac address filtering allow just myself to use wifi? Thanks for the help.

mac address filtering is not secure, as the mac can be spoofed.

I think wpa2 is currently considered the most secure, but in any case you should probably want to run the wireless isolated from your PoS lan.

Most current gateway/routers have a feature called client/guest isolation or something similar, which effectively keeps wireless clients from snooping the LAN traffic.

Still, I don't know if that would be considered completely secure, or secure enough (or not).

get a wired router/firewall that allows connected WiFi access points to route only to the Internet and/or your in-house email server. And VLAN that.

Foolish to do credit card processing on the same physical ethernet wiring as Internet and email. Too easy to make an IT mistake.
