My RT-AC87U keeps logging out when I access the Client List under Network Map via a browser to 192.168.1.1 It takes a few seconds to populate the list, then logs out immediately.

I began with a factory reset, then loaded the latest stable firmware, and noted this problem. Then I tried beta 384.4_beta2, and still cant see the list. Previously I had an AC1200 and had no problems. I can use the app on my phone, and iPad, but would prefer to use my PC. I've tried various browsers.

Any ideas?

So it’s only happening on your (Windows?) PC and it only happens when you access the Client List; you can visit any other page in the GUI and access its sub-menus or tabs etc without problem?

You said using the app on your phone and iPad is ok, but what if you try the same thing using the browser on your phone/iPad to access the Client List via the GUI?

That was an interesting suggestion. I just tried on Safari rom the iPad. Again I got logged out (but it seemed to take a few seconds longer) but this time I can see the message 'You have entered an incorrect username or password 5 times. Please try again after 02:45 seconds'. Needless to say I hadn't done anything other than click the client list, then clicked one of the listed clients.

Same message appears on Chrome from my phone (but the countdown is now down to 5 secs). And now I have logged in again, gone to client list and been logged out again.

I also thought I'd try from the desktop again, using https. This time I see a new page Asus AI Cloud. Clicking Network Map gets me the same message: 'You have entered an incorrect username or password 5 times. Please try again after ...'

I have just bought this router (secondhand). Is it likely to be faulty?

There's a lot of pages in the interface, so I doubt if I've tried them all, but I've not noticed any other strange behaviour like I do from the Client List.

Are you using a browser password manager (like LastPass for example)? Just to rule it out, you might try temporarily disabling it.

No, there's nothing like that. I do have anti-virus on the PC, but not on the iPad or phone, and they all seem to be having the same issue.

I've also noticed that there is no consistency in how long it takes before I am thrown out. Sometimes the whole list populates and I am able to export the list or click on one or two items (no more than two?). At other times it goes back to the sign in page before it has populated the list.
So this seems to happen on any browser from any machine, but IOS and Android apps are ok.

I did see a similar issue in this thread https://www.snbforums.com/threads/client-list-continually-logs-out-of-interface.33950/ but that didn't seem to reach any conclusion.

Yes, inconclusive. Is it worth disconnecting all other clients except the one you’re using, rebooting the router and trying again? Also is there anything odd about your username/password? If so, change the username to admin (in case you changed it) and a simple password eg test? Does it happen when connected by ethernet rather than wireless?

You are connecting via http and not https? Nothing odd about your browsers eg you’re not using privacy modes etc?

I have now disabled the Wi-Fi, and there is only my PC attached to the router. So just this shows up in the client list. I still have the issue of being logged out, but it seems subtly different, in that I can click around in the client list (not much left to click on) on the headers etc. But if I click into the editable field (the name of my PC) it logs me out as before.
Previously I have noted that, clicking those name fields would sometimes log me out, but also that it often let me edit a couple before that happened. Also the opposite was true, that it would boot me off immediately, before clicking anything.
Most of these tests were done with http. I tried https which took me into a different interface (I think it was called AI Cloud) but noted the same issue.

Is anyone familiar with what is happening at the firmware level. Why does it need to re-authenticate, when choosing the 'View List' button? Is there some token stored on the router (I don't think it is down to the client, because I have the same issue across multiple clients) that times out?

I am currently on 384.4_beta2. I am unfamiliar with the firmware options. If I do a factory reset (again) will I get back to the stable release (though I first noted this problem on the stable release). Better still, is there any other firmware I could try?

No, the factory reset does not change the firmware version: it only clearss all the settings back to the defaults (and clears NVRAM). You would need to reflash the earlier stable 384 if you wanted to revert. Note also, when you reset to factory defaults, if doing it at the same time as a firmware change, the reset is done AFTER flashing the firmware, not before, if it is to be of any use.

Having explored a bit more, I think there are several things that fail, and the web interface is unusable. I have been trying to add a manually assigned IP address. I can select the client, and click the plus button, but the Apply button either logs me out (firefox) or leaves me on an updating screen that never completes (Edge). When I go back in the table of manually assigned IP's is empty.
My experience with this router has been horrendous. Yet the connectivity seems good, it's just that I can't seem to configure anything in the web interface. The ASUS App seems fine, but I don't think it allows me to configure IP or to do port forwarding?

My RT-AC68U just started doing something like this, maybe since recent firmware upgrade? 3.0.0.4.385_20253
If I use http://192.168.1.1 it redirects to http://192.168.1.1/Main_Login.asp (or if I use that asp URL directly) and immediately goes to
You have entered an incorrect username or password 5 times. Please try again after (5min count down) seconds.
That happened to me right after installing 3.84.16 on my 86U. Only happened the once though and has been okay since.

@ourcontact, are you using a password manager? Are you using a password longer than 16 alphanumeric characters with no spaces, special characters, punctuation or smiley faces?

What if you use router.asus.com first?

Having the same problem. Haven't seen it before, it happened twice in the last couple days. I have two routers and sometimes I have both logged in using the same browser. Weird.
