The site in question is ecowitt.net (or .com) that I have used for years. A few days ago my ecowitt app, showing temperature and soil moisture devices, simply stopped working and would only show a blank screen. After rebooting my phone, econett hub, routers (ASUS AC86U) I came to the (wrong) conclusion the problem must be at the ecowitt site however I decided to try to access the site via NordVPN app on my PC and much to my surprise it worked. The minute I disconnected the VPN I was no longer able to connect to ecowitt. I have a second router (TP-Link AX7800) connected on a separate WAN (but same ISP) and it too failed to connect unless I utlized NordVPN configured on this router. I also tried connecting with my iPhone via cell data with the phones wifi off. It worked. Once I re-enabled wifi it stopped working.
So, it appears that I can not get to the ecowitt site using my ISP. What can I make of this? Is my ISP blocking the site or is ecowitt blocking my IP/ISP? It would be easy to suggest the problem is with the router but I have tried 2 separate routes on 2 WANs. I need to get this working without VPN and am lost what I can do or look into to fix this problem.
