What is the best option for a fast, green and silent router?

New Around Here
So after a long struggle i finally realized why I think my new NAS isn't connecting...

I think its because I don't have a router. Right now I have my roadrunner box that connects to the coax cable and a 8 port switch that it runs to.

I don't really need wireless, but will buy a wireless router if it offers the best performance that i'm looking for.

I found the Bubba Two just today and was wondering how the router performance might be on this NAS. Since i already have a Qnap 219P I might not need another NAS, but if the router performance is as good or better than the DIR-685 I would be happy to spend the money. I was also considering an extra hard drive onto which i would backup the 219P so the Bubba Two would prove useful in this regard, plus with the router functionality i'd get two birds with one stone. I read in a review that the Bubba Two might not work with OSX Time Machine easily, which could be a problem, but maybe not if all I use it for is as a backup for the QNAP?

I also need at least 8 LAN ports, so I wondering if maybe something like a Cisco router/switch like this one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16833124127) might be a good option?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! 8)

your new nas is probably looking for a dhcp sever to give it a lan address. is there any information as to its default lan settings in the manual?

if you need no less then 8 ports on your switch pick this guy up Netgear GS116 you can find a just 8 port one but there is no point in buying one just to max it out as soon as you pick it up.

as for your router WiFi is great all when you want to sit outside with a laptop but its best to use copper any time you can. the D-Link 655 is a not so bad and at a fair price.

I looked at the Bubba and did not really like that it had it all built in to one box like that, but maybe I'm just to old school.

I hope that helps some.

Since your computers have not been behind a router / firewall, I would recommend you also give them all a good scan with updated anti-virus/malware software.

No need to buy a new NAS or "server". There are plenty of inexpensive routers out there. Use the Router Charts to select one with enough throughput to support your download / upload Internet speed and just shut off the wireless. If you need more ports, just buy an inexpensive switch and plug it into the router.
