Where are all the 5 GHz channels?

I get good performance using channel 36, but have read posts where people have performed 5 GHz throughput tests using the higher channels, but I don't have access to them.

On my Virgin Media Superhub 2 there are a lot of 5 GHz channels to choose from when it's set to router mode, but on the RT-N66U I can only select 36, 40, 44, or 48.

Is this related to another setting or is it a region coding thing (my SH2 is a UK supplied product)?

It's a regional limitation.

It may be something like the router shipping with default settings for all of Europe, while the UK allows a different set of channels.

Take a look at this topic: http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=14815

What output do you get if you run the command "wl country" on the router (on whatever page lets you paste commands; I can't remember the name of it)?

Also, assuming you're running Merlin's firmware you should be able to turn on 802.11d+h so the router tells your clients the region it's set to and which channels it supports (and they can use the same ones).

Merlin, it would be possible to integrate dfs/tpc in the firmware to come in Europe in the to the other channels. Or is that an Asus future which must come from Asus.

I set my Router to the UK one, and it caused a mess, iphone 5 had terrible performance and router unstable, put it back to normal and worked fine since

This has to be done at the closed-source wireless driver level.
