Which is the best range router?

Phoenix

I have an ASUS AC5300 with the latest Merlin firmware.

I live in a 2 bedroom apartment

the router is in the living room but my wife in the first bedroom gets disconnections sometimes due to lost range when the door is closed. Her room is about 15 feet away.

I thought the latest and greatest from ASUS should offer better range than this

What other good routers are there that provide better range yet offer low ping rates like ASUS' offerings?

None, they all are very similar, the problem is not the hardware but the software.

Something else is going on. It should be plenty for a 2 bedroom apartment.
I have a 2 story house with a full basement, I get full coverage from both bands out of my rt-ac68u.

You forgot to tell what FW version you are using, try latest RMerlin / ASUS and you will understand what he means. :)

But i guess the main issue here is that he lives in Europe and you in USA.

Wait for his reply about the region and you will see if I'm right about it. :)

Ok then you are right about it, very strange something is going on...

If he is really from Phoenix. LOL

My wife is many times in the bedroom connected to 5Ghz with the door closed and a distance of 30 feet, no problem at all. Even at a distance of 80-90ft (in the garden) still get plenty of signal and bandwidth on 5Ghz.

Did you try your WiFi connection in other directions or outside the house?

Where is the router placed? On floor, table, near a tv or cordless phone?

If she is 15 feet away, it's not the router, it's the client - check her machine... and the door being open or closed, it shouldn't matter...

Unless the bedroom door is a steel door and unless the walls are heavily armoured, it shall not matter open or closed door.
Unless it is a huge appartment, the wireless range of a central placed router shall be sufficient.
Be sure the router location is selected with some care, on distance of walls and ceilings, away from other electronic devices, not hidden in a closet, with enough ventilation and the antenna's properly oriented.
Legal home usage routers all have a similar wireless range.
Have you tried another wireless client at the same trouble location?
Have you checked the wireless environment throughout your apprtment for usage of wireless channels by your neighbors?
