Why use Asus old code in Firmware.

I'm wondering why Asus write the code for the routers not completely new.

I think 40 Megabyte code is not so much. And some modules are only copy and paste.

I am not a programmer, but when i'm reading that modules are 5 Years or older. I think this is not a good thing.


I think some security could be fixed with latest code from other modules in the firmware.

And the firmware would be more stable.

Or I have a mistake in reasoning.


But all router manufacturers are identical.

If Netgear ore TP-Link ore other, all use old code.

Maybe someone can explain why.


Because Merlin,HGGomes and other use new release of modules, but Asus not. Why?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
It's not only about writing the code, but also testing and addressing compatibility issues between modules. It will add quite some additional costs and the benefits are minimal.
