Will the MSI MAG Z890 Tomahawk Motherboard Fully Support Wifi 7?

Hi all,

I'm building a PC and I'm looking at the MSI MAG Z890 Tomahawk Motherboard for my PC.
I used my last PC for 10 years and I expect the same for this one and I would like to make sure it will fully support Wifi 7 as I will probably upgrade to a Wifi 7 router down the road.
I'm not super well versed with WiFi 7, I know that it opens up a new 6GHz frequency with 320 MHz bandwidth (I think it's the main selling point of Wifi 7) which according to the below spec, the MSI motherboard will support. But I also know that new Wifi revisions comes with other quality of life features to boost performance and I would like to know if this motherboard will support them

Alternatively I was also considering the Asus TUF Gaming z890-Pro and I was surprised that Asus was nerfing their motherboards' WIFI 7 performance by only supporting 160MHz on the the 6GHz band

Thank you

As with previous iterations, you would have to ask Intel and MSI what THEIR plans are, wouldn't one ? And even then, business plans change over time. No one here can tell you.

Just roll the dice....

Thanks for your answer.
Sorry I must be missing a critical piece of information because I don't understand what you mean.
The MSI motherboard and the Intel Wifi module are already out (and the specs are known) and the wifi 7 standard has been finalised as far as I know. So what "plans" are unfinished and what could change in the future exactly? Could you elaborate?

From my research, what I see as Wifi7's new features are:
  • 6GHz band and 320MHZ (MSI supports it)
  • 4k-QAM (MSI supports it)
  • MLO (MSI supports it)
  • MRU (no MRU mention in the MSI specs)
  • 16x16 MU-MIMO (MSI specs says MU-MIMO but it doesn't say 16x so unsure how to interpret this)
Am I reading this correctly? Are there any other Wifi 7's important performance feature I'm missing besides the one listed above?

Well, you can read the standard as well as anyone to see what is optional and what the required minimums are for a device to be called wifi7 or a version of it. Whether the manufacturer fully/minimally implements is up to them. We don't have that knowledge. Remember the roll out of Wireless N standard and all of the compatibility issues ? 7 is no different but may be less compelling in many of the "features".

So, like i said, roll the dice. Since it is an external module, it should be replaceable as well.
