Does anyone know of a simple step by step guide for installing WireGuard Client on an Asus RT-AC86U router?

Sorry that should be Wireguard Client and not Wireguar.

nb: firmware version matters, as indicated in the article

Thanks but the RT-AC86U does not have VPN Fusion installed.

1. Setup a usbdrive and install Entware: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/amtm-step-by-step-install-guide-l-ld.56237/ Note: you dont need to install amtm, its already build into the firmware, but you will need to install Entware.
2. Install WireguardManager in amtm

OP has a RT-AC86U. The RT-AC86U, along with the rest of the AC series of routers, does not support the 388.x firmware that includes the Wireguard feature. See the following Asus link, bottom of page, for supported 388.x firmware models: https://routerkb.asuscomm.com/?page_id=9
