Wireless signal gotten has worse , 5ghz stronger

Occasional Visitor
Good evening,

I have been having a issue over the last few days with my Asus NT 66u range has gotten a lot worse. I have upgraded the firmware along with resetting back to defaults. I have used a WiFi analyzer and made sure to chose the best channel along with 20 MHz only.

Also, I get a better signal with the 5 GHz network which is also strange I thought.

Any ideas??

TIA!

You should state what firmware you are using now and what you were using before.
What channel, width on each band.
With the info you gave (none), it's impossible to guess.

Sorry for the lack of information.

Right now I am trying Merlin's 374.39 firmware to see if it helped any. Before that I tried the latest firmware from Asus, 374.5517 , and it was still no help. I got the same signal strength pretty much with both. As well as my 5GHz signal being just as strong and sometimes stronger.

I am using channel 1 as its the least used channel according to my wifi analyzer, along with 20mhz width.

Please let me know if you need anything else.

Edit: Oh I will also mention that I did restore to defualts each time I loaded a new firmware, along with deleting the SSID from my phone and re-added it.

Some more troubleshooting I have done..

I bought another Asus N66u router to test if it could be a hardware issue in my router I am having. Well, the range was essentially identical.

But also, I used a old linksys e1200 router, and it got the exact same range as what I am currently getting with my n66u. So something isnt right because the n66u should get a lot better range.

So, I am thinking something is obstructing g my signal in my house?

Any idea?
