WNDR 3700 and wifi performances...

Hej,
I have been playng with 3 different adapters and WNDR3700 WIFI the last days.

Adapters are:

Edimax EW-7811UN Wi-Fi 150Mbps Mini USB
TRENDnet TEW-649UB 300Mbps
AR5B93 (Acer 5738ZG laptop and last driver for Atheros)

The results are "depressing"!!

With all 3 adapters:

Using 130 mbps (default), good signal, no surfing! meaning that access to internet should be OK according to Win 7, but browsing no pages, cannot connect to router, but can ping it.

Using 300mbps same issue...

Using 54mbps, very good connection and speed with AR5B93.. all work fine, 3 out of 5 bars signal. 20-22mbit both ways (I have fibre 30/30)
With the 2 other adapters, I can surf, signal is 5 out of 5 (excellent) speed is a disaster, testing with speedtest.net.

I have 30/30 mibt fibre, with the laptop's card I reach 26 mbit up/down, with the 2 other adapters, even if 5/5 in signal 3 mbit down and up.

I have no idea why I cannot connect at all with 130/300 mbps even though the adapters are N compatible. The 2 of them are 150 only, but Trendnet should be 300... still nothing happens.

I reset the router 2 times, once 30/30/30 and once normal reset, and reinstalled 68 manually.. No changes.

The only way I can use this router wireless is only in G/54mbps...

Wired I have no issue and have 34mbit up and down (I pay for 30/30 :D )

What the h*** can I do to setup this router properly.
Or what good USB adapter can let me have N connections?

I have had other Netgears, Linksys, but this 3700 is a mistery for me.

Regards

Check that your clients do not have static IP information and that both Gateway and DNS are pointing to router IP address.

Since you're swapping adapters around, it's possible that Windows is getting confused about the wireless connections. Try deleting all the wireless connections that Windows has saved and creating new ones by scanning for wireless networks and connecting.

Be sure that WMM is enabled on both router and client.

Thanks Tim,
no static IP address is used or other DNS that could cause this.
It works perfectly choosing 54/G.. no issue there.

Wireless just creted after switching to this new router, all is new.

The wireless is found also when using 130mbps or 300mbps, but you cannot surf or use the router UI. it does not respond.

I had disabled WMM.... is there a "good" reason to use it? I never did also with the old router.

I will try that.

Well... now the laptop is running N 130mbps after enabling WMM :p Thanks Tim..

Why that? Can I do more to fine tune it, other suggestions?

The other 2 cards still no use at all... I deleted the wireless settings, started from scratch, zero.

I tried also on the desktop, that normally is wired... zero!

The Edimax and the Trendnet will go back, probably.

Thanks again and look forward for more "recommendetions" ;-)

Tim writes a lot of articles, it's impossible to follow up :p
