33.beta1 installed. LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, WebUI, OpenVPN servers working as expected. Only two issues so far:

First issue
Entware installation is broken. Typing:
admin@Router:/tmp/home/root# opkg list
-sh: opkg: not found

Typing:
admin@Router:/tmp/mnt/Data/entware/bin# opkg list
Collected errors:
* opkg_conf_load: Couldn't stat /opt/etc/opkg.conf: No such file or directory.

Typing:
admin@Router:/# ls -al opt
lrwxrwxrwx 1 admin root 7 Sep 10 03:31 opt -> tmp/opt

Typing:
admin@Router:/tmp# ls -al opt
ls: opt: No such file or directory

In addition there was a line in the syslog after first boot saying that something wrong is with sda1 filesystem (32GB MicroSD to be mount on /tmp/mnt/Data) and recommending to run e2fsck. Following this I typed e2fsck -p /dev/sda1. Then after next boot this warning disappeared but there is still the following message:

Jan 1 02:00:11 hotplug[347]: USB /dev/sda1(ext4) failed to mount at the first try!

Which is strange as the MicroSD is formatted as ext2.

Second issue:
The following lines appeared in the syslog:
Sep 10 23:38:46 openvpn[449]: 192.168.xx.xx:4716 WARNING: Bad encapsulated packet length from peer (20304), which must be > 0 and <= 1591 -- please ensure that --tun-mtu or --link-mtu is equal on both peers -- this condition could also indicate a possible active attack on the TCP link -- [Attempting restart...]
Sep 10 23:38:46 openvpn[449]: 192.168.xx.xx:4716 Connection reset, restarting [0]
Sep 10 23:38:46 openvpn[449]: 192.168.xx.xx:4716 SIGUSR1[soft,connection-reset] received, client-instance restarting

That type of lines are usual in my configuration as one of the OpenVPN servers listens on WAN TCP port 80 and very often some bots trying to connect there. But the strange thing here is that the 192.168.xx.xx address belongs to my home PC I am using now and is from internal LAN.

Any ideas what to do?

I can confirm entware not working.
I reran the entware-setup.sh but no avail, the script was complaining about missing jffs partition:
*** Error: Please enable JFFS partition from web UI, reboot router and
*** Error: try again. Exiting...
I can confirm that this option is enabled in the webui.
However the /jffs seems to be non-writable.

Found 2 bugs on the Port Forwarding interface:

1) It does not accepts values above 255 in the Port Range, it should accept values up to 65536.

2) When selecting Protocol: OTHER, there is no field to input the protocol number.

I have filed 2 bugs at the Github repo.

You need to reboot the router, make sure you check the flag that says clear at next reboot or something to that effect.

I'm having trouble with smart access in AIcloud - it doesn't connect to any of my SMB shares in my internal network (I have 3 my book live NAS). It appears to be ok, finds the devices but connection to the shares always fails even though I have re-validated the credentials.

I'm not seeing the little picture of the router and the meter bar that displays how full your USB drive doesn't appear to be working in AiCloud 2.0 using both Chrome and IE10. Clearing browser cache didn't help. I am seeing the following error in the log for AiCloud if it helps;

Sep 10 21:36:39 webdav: Request: 501-Error! method= GETPRODUCTICON GETPRODUCTICON / HTTP/1.1

Just testing AiCloud 2.0 and the only thing I found so far is a picture missing after you login under Asus AiCloud 2.0

Maybe I need to reset the whole router as I flashed it from 372.32 beta 1....

So far I noticed a speed difference in how responsive the routers web config pages load.
Realy fast so far.
Testing the wifi when I get home as the last build of 374 my wifi was a bid flakey and had to go back to 372.32 beta1 to make it work ok again.

Another little thing on the graphics.

When using the AiCloud from remote the old logo shows up on the top.

I am seeing exactly the same issue with the graphics and AiCloud 2.0 and ,y AC66u, you'll notice the bar doesn't register how full USB drive is either.

Confirmed that "format JFFS on next boot" solved the problem, but there is still an issue - updating the FW, even without factory reset, breaks the Entware installation. Running the entware-setup.sh configures Entware again, but the information about installed packages is lost. They should be installed again via "opkg install <package>". Such repetition after each FW update could be very boring especially if you have many Entware packages installed.

So Far Parental controls seems to work, will let you know if a couple of days, that's usually when it starts to block all traffic..

I never ran the entware-setup.sh after installing since i installed entware quite a while back.

The new firmware checks the disk, you might need to do that to your internal disk, maybe it didn't mount??

Sep 10 21:36:39 webdav: Request: 501-Error! method= GETPRODUCTICON GETPRODUCTICON / HTTP/1.1

exactly the same error here - not sure if its just the icon or AIcloud in general (specifcally smartaccess in my case). Let me know if theres any more debugging I can do. Theres nothing else in any of the other logs apparently relating to this.

i upgraded my firmware to this beta today, so far so good, seems im not having the upnp issues i was having in the last stable release, so thats good, happy about he repeater mode as i wanna try getting a dir-868l soon because my rt-ac66u has horrible signal strength, maybe its cause im in canada and they dont allow the max tx anywhere near 200tx i believe, but its sad that my RT-AC66U and DIR-655 Sit 6 inches from one another and its sad that on the 2.4 band my brand new top of the line $190 asus cant even match letalone beat the performance of my 4 year old d link worth half as much, i will be able to get like 2-5 down and 2-5 up where the asus can not even connect like 30 feet from the router through 2 wall

and as for the dual wan mode im just curious exactly how it works, im asuming theres no way it can bond the connections or in other words use both the connections at once, i noticed merlin mentioned it had some problems reverting back from the second port back to the main one when connection is restored, but does it work switching over to the second connection if the first one is failing, if dual wan was done with 2 isp's it could be used to combat ddos? i used to have dsl and cable but i cut the dsl as they were taking to upgrade me to vdsl2, when they do come out with vdsl2 i will probably have cable and dsl for a few months again untill i decide what i want. and lastly, i can pull 2 dynamic ip's from my isp, and i have 1 going into each router, could i plug them both in and then if i were to get hit i could unplug the first wan being hit and it would revert to the second? only problem is i will probably get kicked from a game if im playing while i get ddos because even tho it can do dual wan it will probably have to recreate the connections? hopefully im making sense here as i have covered alot

As always, thanks for the hard work. My only bug is the previously mentioned reverting to WAN during WAN failover mode, which existed in previous versions of Asus's firmware as well.

If this gets fixed, this thing will almost be perfect! Thank you Merlin!

@connorm have you tried manually selecting a higher # 5ghz channel? Just curious.

I'm just curious what RSSI and/or connection speed all these people are getting that are reporting low speeds but using an Internet speed test as the only evidence of poor WLAN connectivity.

This is my Linksys E3000 running DD-WRT (DD-WRT v24-sp2 (03/25/13) mega - build 21061 ) as a media bridge connected to my RT-N66 (3.0.0.4.374.32 Merlinware) a floor below it. 5ghz radio on the N66 is running 110mw, e3000 running just 50mw I get 270-300Mb/s all day long.

And you are getting, or fearing DDOS attacks, with a dynamic IP? And if so, through the Asus's DDOS firewall? Is your router set *not* to respond to WAN pings? Is this coming in through a DDNS? If so maybe change DDNS, I found my NAS getting 20-30 login attempts per day (all from western europe/Asia/Russia) when I was using no-ip.org, but none since I use a different provider.

i think your confused, i never said i was having problems with speeds, generally where i can connect (especially to the 5GHz) i have good connection, and where i cant connect, i just cant, its goes from being good and able to connect to shirty and not able to, no inbetween really, lowest i seen 5ghz hit was 40mbps and that is to be expected at distance through walls, with good signal it gives me 90mbps pretty easy, and PLZ PLZ DO NOT refer to a sync rate as indication of my connection quality, i can be linked at 300N with a perfect signal feet from the router and not be able to cross 50 or 60 down, and even with a 1.3gbps sync rate its almost impossible to hit speeds of over 500mbps, with ssid insider the 2.4 GHZ will NEVER GET STRONGER THEN THE D LINK, i have my router set to the absolute max wich is 200tx even tho im fairly certain its barely putting out 1/4 of that, for 5GHz it always shows 450mbps but for 2.4 always shows 227 or something weird, i am using 20mhz tho, and im not ever going to 40 so plz dont say consider that, it will nto change range i am 100% positive, does anyone know what the max canadian TX is ? and also, some company filed a suit against asus a while back saying they put out to much power and then i read about how the code was changed so that the radio's on the rt-ac66u arent as strong anymore, and as far as i know that is the only router to have the nerf applied cause of the amount of power the router was consuming or something, and im pretty sure they wernt properly certified for that reason or something, but there next line of routers will be im fairly sure

I just ran a port scan on my router with the latest software.

i have these ports open (on my local network)

Port Scan has started…

Port Scanning host: 10.0.0.1

Open TCP Port: 22 ssh
Open TCP Port: 53 domain
Open TCP Port: 80 http
Open TCP Port: 515 printer
Open TCP Port: 3394 d2k-tapestry2
Open TCP Port: 3838 sos
Open TCP Port: 5473
Open TCP Port: 9100 hp-pdl-datastr
Open TCP Port: 9998 distinct32
Open TCP Port: 18017
Open TCP Port: 43698
Port Scan has completed…

I understand the first few ssh, domain, http, printer.

But what are the rest of them for??
These ones??

Open TCP Port: 3394 d2k-tapestry2
Open TCP Port: 3838 sos
Open TCP Port: 5473
Open TCP Port: 9100 hp-pdl-datastr
Open TCP Port: 9998 distinct32
Open TCP Port: 18017
Open TCP Port: 43698

i am guessing that 9100 is a printer related port too.

The lawsuit was from Netgear, I'll try to look up those Canadian wifi standards, but you better lay off the mountain dew and quit writing from your phone, buddy, or at least PLZ PLZ PLZ find its period key. ;)! :p

On the ROUTER side is where I lock in 40 MHZ correct? I already knew about
deleting the profile and that was done. In your opinion is the brand new beta better than the SD6 version?

CC

SDK6 is where Asus will probably be headed in the future (they are currently busy with other development bits before they can go back to this). The current build remains pretty much experimental. Many users reported shorter coverage on the 2.4 GHz but increased general connectivity, so your mileage may vary.

Once 374.33 comes out of beta I will make a new pixie dust build based on SDK6.

Found 2 bugs on the Port Forwarding interface:

1) It does not accepts values above 255 in the Port Range, it should accept values up to 65536.

2) When selecting Protocol: OTHER, there is no field to input the protocol number.

I have filed 2 bugs at the Github repo.

Already replied to the issue entries, but just to repeat my replies here on the forum: you probably had protocol set to OTHER, which is why port number were limited to single value and between 1 and 255, which is normal for the protocol number. If you set it to TCP, UDP or BOTH, it should once again accept single values and ranges from 1 to 65535.
