Hi, I know the client list and system log shows dhcp-requests etc, in other words when a device, be it a mobile, pc/laptop, tab/pad etc connects, but how can I log when a device disconnects? Is there any sh command or script I can create/use to do that for me (with timestamps) ? So that I can know when someone with a certain mobile left the home etc.

Also, is it possible for the router to scan/sniff (and log those sniffs) for decvices that don't connect to the router at all? Example: Say someone is in my home, without connecting, but the router would sniff its presence (like it does with other routers), and log its presence / MAC-address, possible?

Thanks in advance.

You can't use DHCP to do what you want, but if all the devices you are monitoring are wireless you could probably use "assoclist". See here from post 5 onwards: http://www.snbforums.com/threads/to-trace-mobile-mac-adress.20022/

Sniff a client that never connects to your network? You could run Kismet on another device and it will log everything. All APs, all clients, anything that communicates in 802.11.

This is good for general monitoring, since most data transmissions are encrypted. It would register when someone walks by and scans your neighbors hidden network, but hopefully nothing meant to be secure... (beware potential legalities)
