Beta ASUS ZenWiFi Pro ET12 Firmware version 9.0.0.6.102.4856

Hi Everyone, I was looking into this router and saw in the beta firmware "Auto USB WAN backup, iPhone tethering". How does that work on the ET12? I thought it doesn't have a USB port. Thanks

    AC1900 First Look: NETGEAR R7000 & ASUS RT-AC68U

For wireless/routing yes, they are very similar. However, what stood out to me was the USB 3.0 read/write speeds between the 2. Netgear looks to have a noticeable(2 times the speed in many instances) advantage on USB 3.0 speeds, no matter the file system. I had been running an ASUS AC66U and...

    Question about separate DNS servers...

As Merlin's firmware stands now, is there a way I can specify a specific device(say by IP or MAC ID) to use a specifc DNS server and the rest of the devices use another DNS server? Right now I have my DNS server set manually in the router so all my devices use the same DNS server, but I'd...

    Configuring RT-ac66u for optimal performance.

Just be carefull on the wifi cards because some laptop manufacturers(HP I know for sure) set up their bios's with a white list for things like the wifi card. If the new card is not on the internal whitelist, you machine will not run with it installed. With my HP, I have to run a...

    40mhz issues?

Thanks everyone for your responses. I'm guessing someone in the neighborhood may have upgraded their router or any other combination of things that has made it so my prior setting no longer give me good speed(using 40mhz only on 6u). I have left it 20mhz and it seems fine now, so I will leave...

    40mhz issues?

So I had reset my wireless settings about a week ago and thought I had set everything back to the way it was. However, I was having horrid 2.4ghz speed issues. I mean horrid. Doing a speed test(speedtest.net) using my laptop and my phone(both had similar results), I was getting 500-900K...

    Asuswrt-Merlin - Custom firmware for RT-AC66U

Will disabling GRO(in the next firmware) affect SMB sharing? I do a lot of movie streaming(BluRay and DVD rips) from a drive I have attached to the AC66U, using a Boxee Box. If so, would it be possible to have it as an option to turn on/off?

    Lemon or Working as intended?

It seems that Asus's channel selecting in the "Auto" mode is less than stellar. I found that if I left it on Auto, I got bad rates, but when I played with the channels I found 6u to work best in my area and seeing MUCH better rates.

    Asus RT-AC66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.164

This is amazing to me. With all the huff about QOS and TX, you would think they would actually TEST it to make sure it works. From reading the release notes, it looks like they didn't even address the actual issue tho.

    RT-AC66u 2.4 transfer speeds

Also if you have your 2.4 channel set to Auto, try manually selecting a different channel and see how things go. I had the same issue until I did 2 things, set it to 40mhz only and manually selected a different channel(in my case I chose 6u). Asus needs to look at that Auto channel select...

    Asuswrt-Merlin - Custom firmware for RT-AC66U

Thanks Merlin. I loaded it up on my RT-AC66U without issue and while I haven't been using it long(an hr or so) everything seems great so far. I'll report if I see any issues.

    Asus RT-AC66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.164

Just a note on the TX settings, I was glancing at the reviews at Newegg.com on this router and several people were complaining about the lack of the TX setting(which is why several people gave it poor reviews). Jeremy from Asus commented on a few of them that they were aware of it missing and...

    Asus RT-AC66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.164

Excellent news Merlin. I can't wait! :) Hoping you can get those TX power settings back into the firmware.

    ETA on reviewing the RT-AC66U

If you look at this thread here at SmallNetBuilder... http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=7644&page=2 arogan did his own testing and saw much better results than that review. My guess is, that was done on the old firmware and as arogan noted, the reviewer mentioned there...

    Asus RT-AC66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.164

Well, unless I am reading those wrong(ya never know with me lol) those numbers look fine and are better than what that review showed.

    Asus RT-AC66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.164

Arogan or Arrow, Have you guys done any 2.4ghz thoughput testing? I just read a review at CNet... http://reviews.cnet.com/routers/asus-rt-ac66u-802/4505-3319_7-35406080-2.html that shows the 2.4ghz thoughput to be pretty abysmal compared to the N66U and the R6300. I haven't done any...

    Asus RT-AC66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.164

That doesn't make much sense, since it is still in the N66U version. You would think they would have taken it out of that version, if that really were the case.

    Asus RT-AC66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.164

Ok, so I received my AC66U today and it came with firmware version 3.0.0.4.140. This version DOES allow you to set the TX power and it does stick. So it seems like it being missing in 164 is a bug and hopefully not a designed omission. **EDIT** Well, I was gonna stick with 140 for a bit to...

    Asus RT-AC66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.164

I have a feeling both are related to the AC hardware. They just assumed since it works on the N66U, it would work on the AC66U. I have mine coming on Thursday. While I'm not thrilled that there is no TX power on this right now, neither that or QOS affects me much at the moment. I tried...

    Asus RT-AC66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.164

I thought I read where someone had said this does have 64k NVRam but not sure. I'll see if I can find it. **EDIT** Yep, here it is: http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showpost.php?p=44944&postcount=22
