Has anyone tried the new SSD cache feature that was rolled out with QTS 4.0?

1. How did it work for you?
2. What SSD drives did you use?

TIA, Butzi

SSD Cache

Hi Butzi,

So far with 4.0.5 and 4.1 Beta I do not see any gains of performance, au contraire I see a slower performance when the cache is activated.

TS-870
7x WD Re 4 TB
1x G Force 256 SSD drive

SSD Cache is only active on a 7TB Volume where shared drives are located, rest of the 21TB is partially allocated to my VMware ESX servers.

Will continue to test the equipment in the coming days and weeks as i migrate the data from an older NAS.

Cheers,

Luis

I posted a few tests on QTS 4.1 and the TS-870 Pro with SSD caching here:
http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=15921

With 7 RE drives, you'll want to make sure the 16MB or 32MB pass-thru option is toggled on. The SSD drive is a write cache, so for larger files, a 7 drive array will be faster than the SATA3 limit of ~500MB/s write to an SSD drive. You can see the effect in the tests I posted.

Cheers,
Dennis.
