I current use firmware from my signature (asus stock 376.1071) and everything works perfect . I only miss “Name” field in DHCP static reservation page... What is Merlin's build based or similar with my current FW, and what Merlin build is recommend to upgrade ? I don't want to upgrade Merlin build that has wi-fi range and throughput (ethernet and Wi-Fi) worse than my current FW even if it will security fix. Anyone try this new 376.3657 asus build over 376.1071?

The latest Merlin build should have the same wifi performance as the stock 1071 you have now as both have the same wifi driver.

It will also have the names listed in the reservation list.

Asus stock 1071

6.30 RC163.2002
wl0: Jun 16 2014 19:31:20 version 6.30.163.2002 (r382208)

Merlin 3.0.0.4.376.48_3

6.30 RC163.2002
wl0: Jun 16 2014 19:31:20 version 6.30.163.2002 (r382208)

Installed the latest version of Merlin fork 374.43_2-06j9527 (update 6), did a factory settings reset and clear NVRAM... everything works great and I got some useful settings that does not exist in the stock firmware (376.1071). Also signal wi-fi strength and range are better than stock (and this fork backports some of the fixes of the later Merlin build)…

Doesn't anyone here find it peculiar that this firmware (version 3.0.0.4.376.3657) doesn't have any revision history, only a caveat to do a hard reset? Strange...

3657 behaves nice here, stable at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.
Sofar this brings the best out of the RT-N66U with the additional 5 GHz channels.
Did someone verify in the source code that DFS is really added now?
It should be, with those higher 5 GHz channels.

The one thing missing is site survey: Asus when do you ask Merlin for his code?

[EDIT]
What is going on with the forum?
Yesterday a message about ddos protection and no site contents, this morning site busy, a posted message that went lost and now rather slow...

I'm having some problems with this firmware on 5ghz. Sometimes data transfer stops for a few minutes without losing connection. When this happens nothing appears on the log.

Done reset after upgrade and introduced manually all settings.

Any suggestion?

A few questions:
  1. In what country are you?
  2. Is 5 GHz set to Auto for channel selection?
  3. What is the status of the checkbox "Allow DFS channels in auto mode"?
  4. Which 5 GHz channel is (Automatic) selected (look in the Wireless log)?

1. Portugal
2. Manual. Channel 48.
3. Not applicable
4. Not applicable

Have you used InSSIDer or a similar tool to check the usage of the wifi channels in your neighborhood?
It may be that channel 48 is (sometimes) used by your neighbors as well.
I suggest to set "Control Channel" to Auto (default) and leave the "Auto select channel including DFS channels" unchecked for the 5 GHz section.

My network is the only one on 5 GHz... seen with WiFi analyser.
Only noticed this problem after upgrade to this firmware from 3.0.0.4.376.3602 and despite this firmware not intended for Portugal didn't have this problem.

Please confirm: we talk about firmware 3.0.0.4.376.3657 now, installed in your RT-N66U, right?
You did a hard reset, and the router user interface returned with the setup wizard?
Then manually configured all settings, did NOT load an older configuration backup file?
Please paste screen shots of your 5 GHz General and 5 GHz Professional pages.

Yes to all questions.

Set the Channel bandwidth back to Auto instead of 40 MHz only.
And I suggust to set Control Channel to Auto also.

I'll try it if the issues continues despite not having any problems with this same settings in previous firmware.

Thanks.

What router, N66U? Try cleaning your NVRAM also after flashing a new FW.

This entries appears every 24h approximately and it seems that the problems occurs nearby before and after.
