Just got my N66u setup yesterday, and i'm disappointed in the 2.4 band right now. When my laptop is connected to the 2.4 band, i get the full 50+ mbps that my internet offers (comcast). However, when i connect to the 2.4 via my iPhone 5, and run speedtests, i get around 19mbps, then if i run speedtest again, i sometimes get 25mbps, 30mbps, even up to 40mbps. This is all from 2 feet from the router. I've changed the channels around, and also enabled 40GHz. Can't figure out why the speed changes so much. The 5GHZ band works great, and gives me full speed.

Have you checked the firmware on the router against the latest available on the Asus download site ?

Yes, i updated to 3.0.0.4.270 still no avail, I've also tried factory defaults, and clearing the NVRAM.
I suggest you trying either the .345 or .346 beta for the N66U, that are linked on the forums here. As the .3xx firmware has newer wireless drivers, which I think are better, and more stable for me. There is no official release yet, reason you won't find a .3xx release on asus site yet.

Here is the post with a link to the .345 Beta

Thanks, i updated to .345 Beta about an hour ago, and the speeds were better. Just got back from the gym, and i'm getting 3-4 mbps via my iphone speedtest right next to the router? so frustrating. I'm going to try the .346 right now.

Well I don't have a iphone, but was able to get 15mbps down, and 17mbps up standing next to my router. But in the other room I was seeing about the speed's you mention above.

Have you changed any other settings on your specific router to give you any better speeds?

Well you need to find the best channel for you, in your area. I currently use channel 1 with 40mhz, N only, and WPA2.

Ok, Thanks. I am using channel 1, with 40mhz only on both 5, and 2.4. Also using WPA2 w. AES.

For some reason, my iphone 5 is only connecting to the router at 54mbps. I believe it should be 150, or 300? Any thoughts?

I have no ideal about iphone's, and there wifi. So I don't know what it should/could be connecting at speed wise. If I was you and had time, I would play around with the wireless settings on the router.

Don't know if it's comparable...but iPhone 4 here connects at 35-50 max also and seems to sometimes 'blip' at 15-20 max every now and again...I think it's normal for the phone.

Yeah that's pretty much what is happening for me. Weird. Thanks for the comment!

If I looked this up correctly, only the iPhone 5 support's faster wireless speed's. I think the iPhone 4 only supports up to 54mbps connection rate over wireless.

There is a new 352 BETA version available from Asus thanks to Lilstone87. Can be downloaded here:

It is recommended to use 20mhz for 2.4 and 40mhz for 5:
Although configurable on most wireless devices, Intel does not recommend using 40 MHz channel width in the 2.4 GHz frequency band because of the limited number of non-overlapping channels.
http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/sb/CS-030709.htm

I also noticed several 'dips' downloading with my mobile devices...

The .346 beta on Asus Webstorage site says max dl limit reached. Try again in 20 hours. Can someone post the .trx on mediafire?

Thanks.

I agree, I thought i saw that the iPhone 5 could connect at 150mbps. Mine is only connecting at 54mbps.
