Currently have an ax86u. I flashed it with gnouton firmware to see if that would fix this instability issue I have. It somehow made it worse so I am trying to go back to the default but whenever I flash the stock firmware from the Asus site the router will give me an error message and go right back to gnouton. I then tried to reset the thing by holding down the reset button with a pen pushed into it and after it reset it was stock on gnouton. Idk how to go back to Asus default.

What firmware, specifically, did you flash onto your RT-AX86U?

I don't believe GNUton supports that model.

There is no GNUton firmware for RT-AX86U. Your router is perhaps RT-AX82U.

Stock firmware for it, flash on top of GNUton, reset to factory defaults after:

What do you mean flash on top of gnouton? I am not tech savy when it comes to this.

You simply flash the firmware you want to use.

After confirming you're on that firmware, fully reset the router and do not use a backup config file to set it up.

Stick to stock Asuswrt then and stop experimenting with custom 3rd party firmware. You perhaps don't need it.
