My bad, I meant 376.3602.

So, in other words you are saying the SDK6 wireless driver for the RT-N66U has not changed since the release of the first 376.1071 firmware build by Asus?

No, like what John has said, when the built date has changed, Asus tweaked the wireless drivers/codes. There were 2 or 3 date changes since .1071 if I remember correctly.

Ooops, I have to retract, my first read of your post's version is 374.1071, it's indeed 376.1071, so if that's the case, the driver was changed once from June to October.

Installed the latest version of Merlin fork 374.43_2-06j9527 (v 6) over Asus stock 3.0.0.4.376.1071, did a factory settings reset, clear NVRAM and setup from scratch... Everything works great !! Wi-Fi strength and range are better than Asus stock! Thanks John for your time and effort !!

minidlna discovery process

Hi John,

Thanks a lot for this good firmware !!!

One question regarding the minidlna service.

If the router is running for some time, the minidlna server will not be discovered by clients anymore.
At least not immediately.
When I start the DLNA Client (BubbleUPnP on Android) several times I am lucky and I can "see" the RT-AC68U as minidlna server.
Same behaviour with other DLNA clients.

The "minidlna" process is running fine on the router.
Inotify is working fine too.
Once the minidlna is discovered I can play any media without problems.

It's just the discovery process.

I have disabled UPnP (enabled by default) - could this be related ?

Thanks for your help.

Did you give it a try with UPnP enabled? AFAIK DLNA clients depend on UPnP to connect to the server and it may be falling back to some alternative scheme that is less reliable (but I'm definitely not an expert here).

Just as a quick test I loaded the free version of BubbleUPnP on my very low end tablet running with Android 4.1.2 and it connected immediately and played just fine (I have UPnP enabled on the router).

One other thing that may help is to make sure IGMP Snooping is enabled on the Wireless/Professional tab. I think minidlna uses multicast as part of it's connection process.

I'm trying to setup an iTunes server and can't seem to get my playlists or album art to be recognized. I copied my entire music folder to the external drive and then turned on iTunes Server. The music shows up but none of the playlists. I also tried exporting the playlist files as m3u and changing the path without any luck. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

ARP table - incomplete entries - horzibox tv receiver

We do have a Horizonbox TV receiver connected to the RT-AC68U on a wired connection.

This box requests a lot of DHCP IP´s - no problem so far.

But after some time the connection to this box is not working anymore.

All IP´s / MAC´s of this box are not reachable anymore - in the complete subnet - from all other machines in the subnet too.
Just no ARP entry for the Horizonbox - also on antoher (Windows) machines in the same subnet.

UPCGW_A50B (192.168.1.37) at <incomplete> on br0
UPCGW_A500 (192.168.1.55) at <incomplete> on br0

I have removed the working devices from the "arp -a" command.
Only this box having problems with incomplete entries.

When we reboot the Horizonbox TV receiver the connection is still not working.
When rebooting the RT-AC68U the connection works for some time.

How to refresh the ARP table ?
Why is the RT-AC68U "loosing" ARP entries for this Horizonbox only ?

Thanks for your help.

Being totally unfamiliar with Horizonbox, I tried to read up a bit on it. It appears to be a combo modem/router/IPTV box.....correct? I couldn't find any other references to it besides your post in the SNB forums.

And pretty much the same for any references to lost arp entries. One thread where it seemed to be somehow related to Spanning-Tree Protocol, so you may want to try to toggle that setting to see if it makes a difference (under LAN/Switch Control).

Other than that, I'm afraid I don't have any other insights. You may be better off re-posting as a separate thread in the main ASUS forum to attract some other Horizonbox users that might be able to offer advice.

John,

Just wanted to say thanks for this. Is nice still being on the older driver, but with some patches since then. Thank you for continuing with this.....

Actually, first time I've read of someone tightening down the subnet It's been a while since

I've been using using 255.255.255.224 since I first got my router and maybe a few years on older routers.
I've just recently been using your fork, and will update to the latest version in the next few days.
So, its definitely OK to continue doing this, wont cause any issues in future?

Also, I'm going to use your utility to save settings, will it save all settings including samba, nfs, usb shares/permissions, manual dhcp ip's etc ?

Thanks!

Samba Server is not restarting after reboot

Dear John,
thank you for your great firmware.
I have a rt-n66u and I updated from a merlin 3.0.0.4_374.41 version.

I have an issue with the Samba server. When I restart the router the samba server is not restarting automatically, even if it is enable in the configuration panel.

For solving it's enough to hit the apply button and everything start correctly.

Of course this bug is very annoying if you are resetting the router often.

Thank you!

Hello!

Router RT-AC66U, Firmware :376.48_3.

With mounted FlasDrive does not worked properly some shell commands like ls
the iptables is Segmentation fault

mc show all folders and files properly.
I first time upgraded router to Merlin's firmware from dd-wrt.
On router use OpenVPN, Dual WAN, FTP.

It's my first post and I can't copy/paste shell output.
If umount FlashDrive all commands work properly, e2fsck or reboot don't take effect.
If re-format on PC all partitions on FlashDrive, then again all work properly up to first reboot.
Wrong thread Amateur :)

This is where you want to post:
http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=20605

This thread is for a custom 374 build.

As far as I know, you should be fine. If you haven't had any problems I wouldn't expect any to appear.

That's the goal...but we are still getting better at the 'all settings' part.:) As you read through the thread on the utility you'll see a couple of users have pointed out omissions which I've been adding as they are discovered. I have a pending update for some WPS settings (having trouble getting it posted with the new 'security' on the site).

I haven't touched anything directly with the Samba server, so need to look to some other possibilities. The Samba server can get restarted for a lot of reasons, like when USB disks are added, or minidlna gets an error/restarts, or iTunes errors/restarts.....you get the idea.

Have you added a new USB drive recently or added a lot of files to the minidlna shares? There may be tracks left in the system log for you to browse through as well (if you can't see anything, copy it, zip it and attach it and we can take a look).

No, I didn't add or change anything and minidlna is not active. That's very strange and very annoying. And just hit "APPLY" and the server start to work. I'm teching my children to do that... but a permanent solution could help :)

Thanks. Yes, I tried posting reply earlier using firefox, and I was blocked by some warning, I had to log in with chrome and post.....

Why is the RT-AC68U "loosing" ARP entries for this Horizonbox only ?

Thanks for your help.

This horizon box is completely unreliable.
Sometimes it works - sometimes not. :(

But Thanks for your help.

Hi John, I see Merlin is releasing the 49 final in a few days and was wondering if you have any new releases planned for the fork anytime soon ?My power button on my AC68U failed and i am back on my trusty N66U till i can investigate and purchase another router and dont want to use the 376 code due to poor power output. :) Using your V-6 right now and all is good just wondering if there was a new build in the near future.

Also will you be adding the new IPv6 implementation that Merlin has added to the new build ?

Thank you for your time and work.

I've been using your firmware for a month now on my new to me N66R "Asus certified" router from New-Egg. Your firmware and my router are both working perfectly without problems.
I'm a just a regular user who wants good reliable service:D
