I currently have the Netgear wndr3700 v1 and from the past few months i stop like twice a day i have to restart my router because of 2 laptops i got at home stop connecting to it.

I actually like this router because it had a good range in comparison to the default verizon router and to a dlink dir-825.

Been looking at the charts in the front page but dont really see and range comparasion.

Dont really have a budget, would like to be wireless n and also gigabyte and if possible a feature which i have see in any routers except this 1 is that i have 4 devices connected to it 3 running at 100mbps which another 1 runs at 1 gbps instead of making themm all run at 100mbps

thanks in advance

It's a decent router - before replacing - I would check for firmware updates from Netgear - more importantly, check your laptops for updated drivers on that side.

I have the latest drivers on all devices, my router is v1 and they are producing v3 so i doubt they will ever create any new firmwares.

Then the wireless card i have on my laptops are the intel 5300 which i have also installed the latest drivers.

It just doesnt make much sense, all i know is i have to usually go down 2 floors and restart it, the laptops loose connection, try reconnecting but never connect

does a PC connected by wired cat5 to the router continue to work OK whilst the WiFi connected computer do not?

yes everything else continues to work, my desktop which is connected by cate5, my voip device its just the laptops which have the intels 5300's, actually i just had to reset it again like 5 mins ago its happens min 2 times a day

i guess no one has an opinion on a new router or what maybe my issue that i am currently experiencing

Okay, I had a Netgear WNDR-3700 v1 for a couple of years, and the WiFi stopped working. The wired computers would still be on the network, but wireless clients could not connect. I tried everything I could think of to resuscitate it, no luck.

Replaced that with a refurbished Linksys E4200 v1, that worked well for about 8 months before it stopped working altogether. Again, tried everything to bring it back, nothing worked. Decided that Netgear and Linksys weren't doing it for me, so looked for another alternative.

Replaced the Linksys with an Asus rt-n56u, which is still working well, using third-party firmware. It was pretty much up with the E4200 v1 with wireless signal strength. Added an Asus rt-n66u, which has the strongest wireless signal strength I've experienced, can cover my whole house. Using the .108 firmware, and it's been up for going on 2 months now without have to power cycle at all. I expect that my next power cycle on the rt-n66u will be when I upgrade firmware. So the Asus rt-n56u is available as a backup if the rt-n66u stops working, since I work from home on a VPN 3 days a week.

So I'm feeling good about Asus hardware at this point, Asus firmware can be a little iffie. However, the rt-n56u and rt-n66u both have alternative firmware (Padavan's firmware and tomato, respectively) that can be used if the manufacturer's firmware isn't making you happy *smile*.

I do keep my eye on what's new to see what manufacturer's are currently making the most reliable routers that meet my needs. I really like just being able to set up a router and forget about it most of the time, currently Asus is my personal choice. There are other people that have made other choices for their own reasons, everyone has different experiences *smile*.
