noob setting up a vpn help

because of BT and popcorn time, i read online ppls suggested to use vpn to secure myself, and i found the a website called strongvpn.

can someone explain some basics things to me?

if i signed that up for a $50 yr, and downloaded a client to my mac, turn on , login. and it works . correct ?

if that is it, what is the vpn setting in the router for ?

If You use vpn client on your pc only pc go over vpn if You setup on router all Devices go over vpn

Download speed is slower on router

ok i got it, if I'm using my router for bt downloading, should i purchase pptp or open vpn ?

and do i need a custom firmware for my router ? because I'm still using the official 1

Buy Openvpn doesnt matter router or pc always openvpn

I dont use official firmware cant say anything about that i use ddwrt

But on your router you will get max 20-30mbps speed (ac68u)
