So the street lost internet 4 weeks ago. Telstra tech started at the end of the street and by the time he got to me there were no working pairs left in the cable.
He spent 4 hours trying to patch things and eventually ran 70+ metres of cable from pole to pole till there was a working pair.

I used the free version of OpenDNS to manage games etc. I used it effectively for several years till I was satisfied the kids could self manage. Also using parental controls to cut the Internet to selected devices to give them downtime before bed. If they needed access for school work etc it's...
I'm paying for adsl2+ which is supposed to be faster. Before a tree took out the phone line last year it was 20% better. Telstra left the line down, laying across the road for 4 days with traffic driving over it. They just hauled it up and reconnected it so I imagine the copper is not in great...

I use Parental Controls on a 66U and find it very effective at allow/disallow Internet. I use it in conjunction with OpenDns and scheduling to turn on / off the wireless radio. It's not a complete solution but give me enough control. Once my kids are old enough to manage themselves it will be...
Speedtests are just depressing if you live in regional/ rural Australia. My download speeds are lucky to reach 2Mbps on adsl2+. Packets are faster via the mail than the Internet!
The unit is the asus rt-n66u with latest merl in build.
Parental controls restrict internet access via schedule corrected when accessing via LAN but does not work when accessing via wireless.
Suggestions to debug?
Thanks
I setup the rt-n66u with Merlin's firmware and used parental controls. Setting up an openDNS free account is easy as is using the auto updater to keep isp assigned IP address in sync with OpenDNS.
I found the implementation to be effective given the lack of ability to block vpns and https and...
Pulp, you would be better served with parental controls and an openDNS account if you want to control gaming. This will give you flexibility for the kids to use the Internet for school work while still blocking the games.
Definitely a bug
Ok I just received this email from ASUS R&D confirming the issue and that it will be addressed next firmware :)
In the meantime to cover this issue I have loaded asuswrt-merlin and am using OpenDNS, DNS-o-matic and No-Ip so that I can filter the unwanted sites...
