Looking for highly reliable wireless router for parents.

I currently have a Netgear R7000 setup for my parents, but it's started having problems that require frequent rebooting. Since they live 5 hours away and are in their 70s, I'd like to get something much more reliable. Minimum requirements: 802.11ac (don't need mesh or anything fancy, it's a...

It's fun to stay at the O.F.D.M.A.

LTE-U vs. Wi-Fi: What You Need To Know

Great, more congestion. I already see large numbers of wireless routers/APs and DirecTV and Uverse receivers in the 5Ghz band where I live. This is only going to make it worse.

    R7000 or EA8500?

Is the Linksys EA8500 worth $79 more than the Netgear R7000? I just need them as APs, and may need 2 to cover my entire house. Most of my devices support AC.

    Edimax WAP1750 & CAP1200 Pro APs review

Is the fast roaming feature of the Edimax similar to the zero handoff on the Ubiquti devices? Any chance you could test the AP in controller mode with the AP active to see how much of a hit you take from using that option?

Home Mesh Wi-Fi Coming This Summer From eero

I wonder if you can use one of the ethernet ports instead of wireless for your uplink.

    DS2015xs DiskStation

Yeah, I'm not sure about using ARM either. Unless there's something super special about this one, the ARM NAS are slower than x86 based ones. Also interesting to see that they've switched from e-SATA to Infiniband for their expansion units.

Wireless recommendations for a 5 level split floorplan?

I thought about the UniFi. My router is an Edgemax Lite, also made by Ubiquiti. I just don't want to add too many APs and cause other issues. I pick up probably 7 or 8 SSIDs from the neighborhood in the 2.4 range, but 5 is pretty clear.

Wireless recommendations for a 5 level split floorplan?

Cables all terminate to a patch panel in the utility room in the basement. Cable modem is there too, though I have a separate dedicated router for that.

Wireless recommendations for a 5 level split floorplan?

I have a 5 level split house. Right now my WNDR3700 v1 is in the upstairs loft, and I get a pretty bad signal almost everywhere in the house. I've attached the floorplan (finished basement is not shown), so could someone make suggestions as to where the best place (or places) to put an AP...

NAS Ranker: Is Class By Processor Useful?

I second ranking by price, and being able to filter by drive bays, etc. I doubt anyone is going to compare a $3k device with a $800 device when looking for what to buy.

    DS1813+ review

Tim, Could you do some tests with 3 or 4 of the NICs aggregated? I'm curious to see if throughput improves with than a single NIC can handle.

    Thecus Toptower n6850 review

Tim, This is the section that confused me: "Thecus was kind enough to send two Intel X520-DA2 10 GbE boards with the N6850 and a connecting cable so that I could do just that. One board went into the PCIe x8 slot in the NAS, the other into my NAS testbed in the ASUS P7H57D-V EVO motherboard's...

    Thecus Toptower n6850 review

Thanks for the review. If I read it correctly, you put the 10Gb adapter in a x1 PCI-E slot on your testbed motherboard? That could be the reason your in memory copies couldn't break 300MBps, since PCI-E 2.0 x1 is limited to around 500MBps. Do you have the ability to use the x16 slot on the...
