[RT-N66U] samba disconnects / enabling samba logging

my solution was to buy a WD MyCloud 2TB NAS for $150. I wish I'd done it in the beginning, I spent a lot more than $150 of my time on trying to get it going.

[RT-N66U] samba disconnects / enabling samba logging

Oh well! I was hoping you had discovered the secret. It's obviously possible to do so as Merlin was able to suggest log level settings. When I first started using the RT-AC66R about a year ago, I found that my Kodak printer was unable to access the Samba share. I spent quite a while trying to...

[RT-N66U] samba disconnects / enabling samba logging

Was something actually written to the log file? Were you able to see anything in /var/log.samba? I've have "log file = /var/log.samba" and "log level = 5" in smb.conf. A zero length log.samba file is created. Did you need to do anything other than make the same changes I did? With those...

    Samba logging

Can someone help me increase the logging level from Samba please? I'm still trying to scan from a Kodak all-in-one printer/scanner to the hard drive on my RT-ac66R. The same printer scanned to the same hard drive when it was connected to a WNDR3700 running DDWRT. I'm getting a mix of Invalid...

    Troubleshooting Samba

I'm still unable to access the samba share from the printer. I've also been completely unable to produce any additional Samba log messages. I have used Wireshark to look at messages that are actually sent. Samba is responding with STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME in the response to a "Tree Connect Andx...

    Where are Samba log files

That seems to be the source of the log shown in the GUI. It doesn't show any Samba logs when I try to connect to the share. Would you expect some with loglevel set to 3? Troubleshooting info on Samba.org show pages of output at loglevel 3. This might be a result of something in the syslog...

    Where are Samba log files

I'm having problems connecting to a samba share on my asus rt-ac66r from a Kodak all-in-1 printer (as described in http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/sh...ad.php?t=10221). Where should I look for samba logs? I've set the log level to 3 based on information on the samba.org website. Am I...

    Troubleshooting Samba

I'm having problems connecting to a samba share on my asus rt-ac66r from a Kodak all-in-1 printer as described in http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=10221. It appears that my next troubleshoting step should be to increase Samba's log level and use the resulting logs to...

    Samba share access

That didn't solve the problem (It did teach me that I don't always need to supply the domain before the username for authentication.) The situation on the PC is that Net use works fine as long as Simpler share names is enabled and Accounts is off. I've also found that I can map to the Samba...

    Samba share access

I have an ASUS RT-ac66N that I've just upgraded to asuswrt-merlin 3.0.0.4.270. With the previous router, I used samba to store scans from a Kodak All-in-one OfficeHero 6.1 printer. I wanted to put the share on the new router. I'm using the KODAK Online Printer Management Tool to configure...

    RT-ac66R Limitations

customized dnsmasq.conf That sounds good. How did you prevent the asus firmware from regenerating the file? I would have expected /etc/dnsmasq.conf to be regenerated when you make at least some changes in the GUI. Could you post your one as an example please? Thanks Mike

    RT-ac66R Limitations

Dns/dhcp That makes sense. A customized dnsmasq.conf would mean I'd need to keep IP/MAC addresses in step in two places. That may also explain why DD-WRT has DHCP and DNS information in the DMSmasq portion of its configuration.

    RT-ac66R Limitations

Progress on DNS and Samba That answer helped - I think you meant the router was generating names for local addresses and I'd need to use those names. Perhaps I just didn't know what name to look up. I reviewed the DNS configuration on the PC and found it had a old domain name so I changed...

    RT-ac66R Limitations

Last weekend I bought an Asus RT-ac66R to replace a Netgear WNDR3700 (running DD-WRT) that had started forgetting its configuration. The ac66R installed amazingly quickly providing basic Internet access in half an hour or so. This is obviously excellent. I have found a number of...
