Did you try the recommendation in this thread of using a good micro-sd to USB adapter (2.0 is you use wireless) with a micro-SD from the SanDisk Max Endurance lineup or maybe the Samsung Pro Endurance lineup? I got a cheap $1 adapter from microcenter and one of those cards. So far so good.

Do the ax models also need to worry about usb 3.0 causing issues? Also is there a reason not to use a Samsung Pro Endurance micro SD card in a usb adapter? (Or SanDisk Max Endurance)

In process of getting my replacement RT-AC86U up and running. Full nuke and m&m done on 384.19. Ran speed tests without QoS on. It's looking good besides bufferbloat, so time to install FlexQoS. Follow your steps, it doesn't advise to select a discipline, do you not recommend one anymore...
