Partition/formatting/labeling issues with new external HD

Thanks, Yota. As it turns out, the disk was already using GPT format, and fdisk output was just the consequence of fdisk not understanding that format. I then used MiniTool Partition wizard to at least remove the Microsoft partition, but for some reason, Asuswrt didn't want to mount it anymore...

Partition/formatting/labeling issues with new external HD

Hi everyone, I recently bought a 8TB to replace my 4TB backup/media drive which is attached to my RT-AC56U router running Asuswrt-Merlin. Disk was probably formatted NTFS out of the box, so (as recommended by many) I SSHed to my router and formatted it to ext4 (using mke2fs -t ext4)...

Advice needed for router/repeater usage in particular setting

Quick question... I am sharing my neighbor's Wifi, but at the same time, I'd like to have my own Wifi network with a private USB drive connected and the ability to use a VPN. I own a bunch of RT-AC56U's with Asuswrt-Merlin installed and I know I can have this by setting up two devices: One as a...

Accessing locally attached USB drive without internet access?

Hi everyone, Every once in a while I find myself in the situation that I don't have internet access but would like to access the local Samba/Windows share that is attached to my Asus router via USB. Unfortunately, it seems impossible. I remember losely that I researched this last year and found...

    384 upgrade reconfiguration help

Quick question: Since it is recommended to do a factory reset when upgrading from version 380 to 384 - is there a way to get some kind of "diff" between the default configuration of version 380 and the current settings? Because of course it isn't difficult to re-add a couple of custom...

Two suggestions for OpenVPN Client Settings

Re-Edited my previous post and replaced "connection" by "tunnel" to avoid misunderstandings.

Two suggestions for OpenVPN Client Settings

In which way? The reason I brought this up because to me, there is quite a difference between a dropped (!) tunnel and one that was deliberately closed. To me, this is unexpected behavior. EDIT: Or rather "goes down". To me, if something goes down, it happens unassisted. Shutting it down on...

Two suggestions for OpenVPN Client Settings

To me it does. I turn service state "ON" to service state "OFF" on the currently active VPN - internet connection dies. I turn "Block routed clients if tunnel goes down" off, and it is back immediately. I've tested this throughly, and upgraded to the latest Merlin version before posting here...

Two suggestions for OpenVPN Client Settings

Hi and thanks for all the hard work you are putting into this firmware! I am very happy with the strict settings that are possible with the OpenVPN clients to make sure connections are protected at all times and the VPN tunnel doesn't just die in silence. Two ideas for improvement, though: (1)...

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

Run the Script After Connected/Disconnected to VPN Server I noticed that the newest firmware version allows you to run a script if the VPN client disconnects from the the server (which is fantastic, I guess). Is anyone already making good use of this, and can someone possibly give instructions...

    HD issues

Just as an update - I "fixed" the HD using fsck, but after un- and remounting the drive, the problems returned. Fsck again, problem returns (repeat). The N56U still has no problem with the drive, and Paragon ExtFS works fine as well (apart from the general problems this software has). So at...

    HD issues

I am aware of that problem, but I am afraid mine is a different one. Ironically, I HAD the problem you mentioned about a year ago: http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=9390 So in the aftermath, I decided to go with a native linux format (ext4), even though something that's...
