Ok, this is just beyond confusing in my nearly 15 years in IT work and building my own computers since 2001. Been wanting to get an upgraded AC enabled router from my old but trusty Asus RT N66U which works reliably enough, but the wifi isn't the greatest in strength or speed.
Best Buy had the the infamous NightHawk R7000 for Black Friday for $120 so I jumped on it. Set it up with stock firmware out of the box and for whatever reason, my 125MBPS connection through comcast on my own Surfboard SB6183 on speed.net tests show an abysmall download speeds of only 1-5 mpbs and upload normally 12mbps for around 3-10mpbs. And thats on hardwired Cat5E, no wifi testing. Well, thats not freaking right!
Searching with good old Google, I was finding threads 2-3 freaking YEARS ago with people having the SAME PROBLEM both on this forum and a host of others. So I did the usual for both routers with different hardware versions
1. Went to beta firmware due to security risk, no change
2. Turned off QOS and WMM and then back on, no change
3. Didn't try downgrading firmware as I shouldn't have to do that
4. Manually changed MTP with no change.
I took the first one back and swapped it for another hardware revsion AND THE SAME DAMN THING!! I'm getting the same paltry download and upload speeds right out of the freaking box! I yanked the damn thing out and plugged my old Asus RT N66U and whammo, 126mpbs down and 12.5 mbps up!
If this is seriously NetGear quality I am beyond unimpressed so i'm taking this POS back unless anyone else has ideas.
