Does security update mean a complete 384.9?

I already have compatible binary blobs for the RT-AC3200 in 384.9, regardless of their RT-AC3200 firmware release timetable.

So they updated to a 384 code base from 382 which you were concerned about?

Not sure if the question belongs here.
What model should I buy this year as an addition + upgrade to my RT-AC1900 that will have longer firmware support life from Merlin and Asus? Does AC86U still seems a good buy for money or would it be suggested to move to newer/triband model for normal home use with VPN?

Edit: I have read the reviews on snb earlier as well but the question is more on longer firmware support from Eric (RMerlin) and Asus.

No, they just provided me with the precompiled components I needed to build my firmware. Nothing has changed.

My RT-AC3200 firmware was always based on 384 GPL code.

Can't predict anything there, since I'm dependent on Asus's own support.

Probably a different thread for this but rt-ac86u is near top of the line with full support afaik. Dual band and a great unit.

Thank you for all your hard work on this project. It's the only reason I buy Asus routers. I appreciate how you provide timely updates and also keep security in mind!

Question @RMerlin: The 87U is a few releases behind. Let's say theoretically Asus gives you updated / or compatible precompiled binaries and it aligns with the 384.10 dev cycle... Does that mean we'll get all your changes in 384.8 and 384.9?

I'm another who only bought an ASUS router (RT-AC68U) on recommendation of the RMerlin project. I've donated gratefully.

Many thanks and a Happy New Year to all!

Yes, provided I can obtain the binary blobs (the engineer providing me with them is currently travelling), and that they are compatible.

I think one of the more amazing things is the long legs of the RT-AC68U line... if you were to look at download stats, I suspect the 68U is the highest number overall, and still one of the more popular downloads.

AsusWRT-RMerlin is a key contributor to keeping that product thru it's various iterations going...

Unfortunately I cannot get models breakdown because I've specifically designed the update server to not receive model info from visitors, but the fractional download counts from the primary SF.net download site show a clear tendency:

    https://sourceforge.net/projects/asuswrt-merlin/files/

I would expect the Onedrive mirror downloads to have a similar distribution ratio.

The RT-AC86U has also been very popular lately, thanks to deep discounts for that specific model during the Holidays.

Absolutely! I may not be as demanding of a router as some (no VPN, usually about 20 clients) but I have seen no reason yet to go above the AC68 models. With Merlin's and John's help those do everything I could ask for.

Currently using one as the gateway router, and another is an access point in my A/V system and also provides Wi-Fi to a secondary structure on my property about 60 feet away.

RMerlin thank you for everything you do! I too have an RT-AC3200 and I look forward to any possible release for it.

    Thanks for this post;
Is it possible to add Shadowsocks proxy in vpn clients to next firmware versions of ASUSwrt Merlin for rt-ac87u or for all asus routers?
