AC66U Losing Settings?

Several time in past week - AC66U, with Merlin firmware 378.54_2, keeps reverting to "ASUS" SSID along with other defaults.

Tried -

1. • Reboot
   • Reset, reconfig, reboot
   • Reload firmware, reset, reconfig, reboot

Nothing seems to help. What's going on with this?

Make sure you don't fill up nvram. Check its use level on the Sysinfo page.

Can you please tell me specifically what to look for in Log if NVRAM overrun is the issue? General Log? Happened again last night and I've got things running again but will look next time.

And what would cause this situation to occur?

Cleared "General Log" and rebooted router. Noticed strange, to me at least, dated entries in Log. Typically seeing Jan-01, followed by Dec-31, followed by Today's Date log line items and then Dec-31, Today pattern repeats until ending with final Today's Date entries.

Is this right? Or a sign of the resetting to Defaults troubles I'm experiencing?

Ah, think I finally found the right place - "Internal Storage" is a section within the "Sysinfo" tab under "Tools".

Right now, with the AC66U working OK, NVRAM usage is showing; 40672/65536 bytes.

Again, what would would be writing to NVRAM during normal operation that might cause an overrun?

You have over 24 KB free, so this is not an issue.

For those interested - I believe this problem has been solved. Appears that a failing X-RAID NAS drive was the culprit. Discovered on first AC66U config reset to defaults occurrence that suspect drive was marked "Dead" within NAS system. Reformatted, remounted and resynced drive as X-RAID volume. Failed a second time in a few days with increasing bad sectors, again marked NAS "Dead" and AC66U also reset configs to default. Removed the drive, reconfigured the router and all has worked as expected for several days.

So although the problem *seems* solved, I guess my curious question is HOW did this situation cause the AC66U to reset configuration to defaults? I can understand a failing network device disrupting or overloading network traffic but not altering a router setup.
