AC87U and HDD

Good morning.

Im a happy owner of an Asus AC87U using the latest firmware.I plugged my HDD on USB2.0 port an ADATA 500gb formatted to NTFS which is recognized immediately i installed Download Master and configured samba as usual.The thing is the HDD led is always on it doesnt go off like previous firmwares and from time to time it starts blinking even if nothing is connected to the router cloud services are disabled.I took the hdd out formated again under windows i reset the router and nothing its still doing it.Now my question:Is it suppose to work like this and if it does isnt gonna wear out the hdd faster since it never sleeps or turn off?Is there any way i can see what is keeping it turned on all the time?

I don't think official firmware to have spin down for hdd.. If you use Merlin firmware 56_2, you can find spin down option at tools menu after that other settings. There you can set timeout in seconds.

Im sure they do.First time my hdd is doin this.Is there any command to use and find out what is causin this?

I think there is another way, but depending on your HDD manufacturer, you can connect to PC, download the configuration tool for your HDD from the manufacturer and then configure through it the spin down... This keeps stored in the HDD config even when connected to different systems...

Tried few stuff.I also connected HDD to my old N55U and its working perfect.Also it spins down after 10mins.So its the router.The HDD is connected to usb2.0 my first thought was the download master i uninstall it but still.Turned off DLNA and ftp still nothing.

I've also had this problem and can't find what keeps hdd from speening off for this reason I've bought usb flash 128 gb. For me this capacity is enough for torrents and Dlna server. If I want to keep some torrent just transfered to external hdd.
